Tell us a little about your background in design:
I transitioned into interior design in 2015, studying at Solihull College and University after a previous career. Over the past decade, I’ve honed my skills and passion for interior design, drawing inspiration from my hometown, Brasília, the capital of Brazil. Growing up surrounded by Oscar Niemeyer’s modernist architecture has had a lasting impact on my approach to design, blending innovative ideas with a deep appreciation for functional, beautiful spaces.

How would you describe your personal design style?
My design style is an eclectic blend of modern and traditional elements. I appreciate many design styles, but I am especially drawn to the harmony between clean lines, shapes, and forms and the richness of beautiful architectural embellishments. This balance allows me to create contemporary and timeless spaces with a refined aesthetic that respects the past while embracing the future.

Where does your design inspiration come from?
I find inspiration all around me, from the simple beauty of a walk in the park and connection with nature to the rich experiences of travelling and exploring different places, architectures, and cultures. I also enjoy staying updated with design events and trends, constantly learning from how other designers interpret art and design. This continuous exposure to diverse perspectives keeps my creativity fresh and ever-evolving.

In what direction do you feel that design is moving towards in a general sense?
I believe design is moving towards a more functional and sustainable approach, focusing on creating practical and meaningful spaces. Technology is enhancing interiors, making them smarter and more efficient, while sustainability is influencing material and design choices. In my work, I strive to use long-lasting products and design spaces that will withstand time, minimizing waste and supporting future technological upgrades. At the same time, there’s a growing desire for spaces that evoke well-being and connection, blending modern innovation with timeless beauty.

Name five key themes to consider when approaching design in the future.
-Technological Integration: Incorporating smart technology and innovative solutions into the design creates spaces that are functional, efficient, and future-proof, allowing for seamless upgrades.

-Sustainability and Circular Design: Prioritising eco-conscious choices by using sustainable materials and adopting a circular design approach, where products are designed for reuse, recycling, or regeneration, minimising environmental impact.

-Timeless Design: Creating enduring spaces that transcend trends, combining classic design elements with contemporary functionality to ensure long-lasting aesthetic and practical value.

-Well-being-Centred Design: Focusing on physical and mental well-being by incorporating natural elements, optimising light and airflow, and designing spaces that promote relaxation, comfort, and overall health.

-Cultural Identity: Infusing design with respect for diverse cultural traditions, local craftsmanship, and materials, ensuring that spaces reflect a global perspective and a strong connection to place and identity.

If you could offer one piece of advice when it comes to designing, what would it be?
Design with purpose and be brave in your approach. Every element should have a clear function—whether it’s guiding the user, evoking emotion, or solving a problem. Don’t be afraid to think outside the box and push boundaries. Look around for inspiration and create something that not only fits the client’s brief but also brings fresh ideas and innovation.

How important are The International Design & Architecture Awards?
The International Design & Architecture Awards are incredibly important to me and to the design community as a whole. They provide a platform to celebrate creativity, innovation, and excellence, pushing us all to strive for the very best in our work. For me, being part of these awards is not just about recognition—it’s about contributing to a global conversation on design, sharing ideas, and inspiring one another.

What projects are you currently working on?
Being well-established in the residential sector, I am currently working on delivering a couple of high-end residential properties. At the same time, I am expanding into the commercial and hospitality industry, designing both the architecture and interiors of an event venue in São Paulo, spanning 2000sqm, and a spa and medical clinic in Brasília, the capital of Brazil. These projects allow me to explore new design challenges while bringing my expertise in luxury and functionality to a broader audience.

What was your favourite project to work on and why?
I’ve loved working on multiple projects, but The Grange House stands out as a particularly incredible experience. Dating back to 1902, the property had stunning Arts and Crafts details, and the client’s brief was to design a modern extension while maintaining a strong connection to the original architecture. Throughout the renovation, we faced several challenges due to the home’s age, but overcoming these obstacles only deepened our expertise and made the final result even more rewarding. It was a project that truly blended history with contemporary design, and seeing it come together was a moment of great pride.

What was your most challenging project to work on and why?
The Grange House has to be my choice again for the most challenging project. Due to its age, we encountered many unexpected issues that added extra work and caused delays. Walls crumbled as old wallpaper was removed, rotten floorboards were uncovered beneath layers of flooring, and during excavation for the conservatory, we even discovered an old well once used for the horses. The entire electrical system also had to be replaced.

While many challenges were anticipated, even more arose during the process. However, our close communication with the contractor and client allowed us to tackle each issue efficiently. Our problem-solving approach ensured the project’s success and built a strong relationship of trust with the client, making the experience incredibly rewarding despite the difficulties.

Which products/services could you not live without when designing? E.g. Lighting companies, furniture companies
When designing, we couldn’t live without the support of our incredible team and the services they provide. We rely heavily on bespoke furniture and cabinetry makers, soft furnishings specialists, and trusted electricians and builders who help bring our visions to life. Additionally, we work with amazing and reliable suppliers for furniture, lighting, fabrics, and more. Their expertise and quality products are crucial to creating designs that not only look great but function perfectly.

What are your aims and goals for the next twelve months?
In the next twelve months, my goal is to successfully deliver the beautiful residential and commercial projects we’re currently working on. I also aim to grow my team, bringing in more talent to support our expanding work. Additionally, I’m excited to explore more opportunities in the hospitality and commercial sectors, helping the company reach new heights in these areas.

I also love spending time with close friends or family, enjoying good conversation and food. It’s all about finding a balance between relaxation, creativity, and recharging for the next exciting project.

If you weren’t in this sector, what would you alternative profession be?
If I weren’t in design, I could see myself in roles like curator, event planner, or creative educator. In these roles, I could combine my love for art and creativity with my ability to communicate and engage with people. Public relations in the creative industry would also be a great fit.

Anything else interesting?
I’m an ambitious and driven person who truly loves working with architecture and design. From the initial concept to project management and taking final pictures, each step gives me great satisfaction. Along the way, I’ve discovered I’m not only skilled in design but also in business management, and I take great pride in the hard work I’ve put into my career. As a single parent, I aim to balance work and life, ensuring I spend quality time with my children and serve as a positive example for them. Being shortlisted for the Design et al Awards is a huge honour, and it’s a reminder that, despite the challenges, I’m on the right path.
