The Ritz-Carlton, Portland marks the brand’s first foray into the Pacific Northwest and introduces the region’s newest five-star destination. Nestled within a 35-story crystalline tower inspired by the Cascade Mountains, the hotel is situated in the heart of Portland – surrounded by the city’s rivers, forests, and proximity to the Pacific coast.

Tasked with the challenge of designing a luxury hotel that reflects Portland’s raw authenticity and community spirit, Roam Interior Design drew upon the region’s rich cultural, geographical, and historical context to craft a narrative-driven design experience. Their vision embraces a biophilic approach, fostering guest wellbeing while strengthening the connection between the interior environment and the city’s surrounding natural landscape.

Conceived through the lens of a couple on a modern primitive road trip, the design artfully balances elevated luxury with Portland’s distinctive, unpolished charm. Subtle references to local heritage-such as the “Portland Penny” and the city’s nickname, “Stumptown”-are embedded in copper accents and raw timber features.

Guests are welcomed into a soaring forest-inspired lobby, which transitions into the Grand Stair-its form echoing the moss-covered basalt falls of Mt. Hood, framed by hand-crafted local glass railings. The design ascends into a canopy-like atmosphere, suggesting a journey beyond the treetops.

The lobby bar offers a moody, ethereal retreat, with deep tones and crystalline light reminiscent of moonlight filtering through trees. On the 20th floor, a signature dining venue overlooks the city with 180-degree views, while guestrooms feature bespoke furnishings and leather details, evoking vintage travel and completing an immersive, place-driven luxury experience.
