Tell us a little about your background in design:

After graduating from university, I worked as an architect at a major general construction company and later studied interior design  at The Interior Design School in London. I have a master’s degree in Fine Arts specialising in Japanese wooden architecture.

Where does your design inspiration come from?

I have loved imaginary play ever since I was a child, and I used to take ballet lessons, so I was influenced by that as well.

How would you describe your personal design style?

My designs are influenced by my deep appreciation for the beauty of our planet Earth, as well as my admiration for traditional Japanese craftmanship.

In what direction do you feel that design is moving towards in a general sense?

In my case, recently, I feel that it is also important to value connections with people, appreciation for the earth, and individual and national identity. I feel that it will be a good fusion of different things.

Name five key themes to consider when approaching design in 2023 and beyond.

Sustainable, Fusion (East-meets-West), Traditional crafts, Beautiful details, and Imagination.

If you could offer one piece of advice when it comes to design schemes, what would it be?

I think of design schemes wishing for the happiness of clients and their families.

It is important to successfully combine what the client likes.

How important are The International Design & Architecture Awards?

For me, it’s the most important award. It gives me wings to the world.

What projects are you currently working on?

・Planning a new museum

・Renovation of some residences

What was your favourite project to work on and why?

House with Japanese Kura was my favourite project because I was able to realize my vision of East-Meets-West and the creation of an attractive man cave.

What was your most challenging project to work on and why?

Each project is challenging in its own way, but I love solving puzzles. So, I never consider any one insurmountable.

Which products/services could you not live without when designing?

We always check with 3D or models. Zoom and Skype tools are also very important.

What are your aims and goals for the next twelve months?

It’s about letting the market know about Ron Design and getting new, fun work. Oversea projects are also welcome. I hope that design et al becomes a platform that connects readers and designers.
