Sheree Stuart Design, in collaboration with Dewson Architects, has created a stunning all-season retreat for a young family at the Eugenia Lakehouse. This property, designed as a sanctuary for skiing, hiking, and lakeside leisure, fulfills the clients’ vision of a generational home where families can gather, stay for extended periods, and enjoy the serene lake views and tranquility of the surrounding nature.

The Eugenia Lakehouse features a main dwelling with a covered porch that serves as the heart of the retreat. This dwelling embodies sustainable design principles and is thoughtfully integrated with the landscape. Complementing the main house is a garage that blends seamlessly without obstructing views, and a gym building in the northwest quadrant that offers a dedicated space for wellness and recreation. Landscape considerations have been paramount, guiding the placement of structures and site features to preserve and enrich natural elements like cedar and deciduous trees.

The foundation of the main house is partially positioned on the existing barn footprint, optimizing both topography and views—an exemplary sustainable design choice. The house’s orientation is meticulously planned to maximize the efficiency of future photovoltaic roof panels, ensuring energy sustainability. The garage maintains a harmonious street elevation, blending into the landscape rather than dominating it.

The project’s design objectives encompass contemporary influence and an open environment. Sheree Stuart Design has seamlessly blended the warmth of wood with a modern aesthetic, utilizing extensive wood with structural integrity and incorporating white surfaces with balanced gypsum board proportions. The design fosters a seamless transition between interior and exterior spaces, maintains simplicity in architectural expression, and utilizes diverse flooring options and open shelving.

Key elements of the design include panoramic views in all directions, ample natural light, effective ventilation strategies, and dynamic glazing for functional and comfortable spaces. This approach creates a harmonious living environment that is both stylish and functional, perfectly suited for generational family living and enjoyment of the natural surroundings.
