Tell us a little about your background in design (education, experience, etc)

I studied Architecture at FAAULP in Porto, where I developed a deep appreciation for both the creative and technical aspects of design. After graduating, I spent five years working on small private residential projects in Portugal. Since relocating to the UK, I’ve spent the past 15 years specialising in high-end residential architecture, with experience spanning both exterior and interior design.

My portfolio includes a broad range of projects—from refurbishments to contemporary new builds—many of which I’ve led from initial concept through to completion. My approach is defined by a strong attention to detail, a focus on functionality, and a commitment to delivering bespoke design solutions that are carefully tailored to each client and site.

How would you describe your personal design style?

Clean lines and natural materials

Where does your design inspiration come from?

I’m particularly inspired by the functionalism and minimalism; however, I also look to vernacular architecture and craftsmanship.

In what direction do you feel that design is moving towards in a general sense?

Design is increasingly embracing a more holistic and responsible approach—one that prioritises sustainability, adaptability, and user well-being. The focus is shifting beyond aesthetics to encompass performance, longevity, and environmental impact. Technological advancements, from digital fabrication to AI-assisted design, are playing an expanding role, yet the human experience remains firmly at the centre of it all.

Name five key themes to consider when approaching design in the future.

Sustainability, circular design, adaptability, well-being, and technology integration.

If you could offer one piece of advice when it comes to designing, what would it be?

Design with empathy. Always start by understanding who you’re designing for, how they live, and what truly matters to them. A space may be beautiful, but if it doesn’t serve the people using it, it’s incomplete. Empathy ensures that design is not just functional or aesthetic, but meaningful.

How important are The International Design & Architecture Awards?

They offer significant prestige and visibility for both individuals and practices. Being recognised not only affirms the quality of our work but also helps elevate our profile within the global design and architecture community.

What projects are you currently working on?

Refurbishing a Grade II listed house and working on a new private home, both in centre of London.

What was your favourite project to work on and why?

Athlone House, a large Victorian mansion, that underwent a significant restoration project to bring it back to its former glory, as well as its surrounding outbuildings, with particular the Summer Pavilion, a new contemporary and minimalist leisure building.

What was your most challenging project to work on and why?

A private music pavilion in a Surrey residence. Originally conceived as a small-scale structure, the project quickly evolved into a substantial structure, combining sustainable design principles with cutting-edge technology. The building features luxurious, meticulously crafted joinery and high-end materials throughout. Exceptional attention to detail was applied both inside and out, resulting in a space that is as refined as it is innovative.

Which products/services could you not live without when designing? E.g. Lighting companies, furniture companies

CAD/Bim software. They play a role for accurate plans and coordination between all consultants as specialists.

What are your aims and goals for the next twelve months?

Finishing a project that I have been involved in for some time since the beginning of the pandemic, and ideally or possibly starting a new one from the ground.

Your most treasured possession?

my most treasured possession are two hand sketches made for me, from Alvaro Siza Vieira and Eduardo Souto Moura, both Pritzker architects.

Your favourite holiday destination?

anywhere north of Portugal.

Your favourite hotel, restaurant & bar?

Hotel:
Restaurant: Joia London
Bar: any bar on a rooftop top preferably

Your favourite book, film & song?
