Perched atop the Aravalli Hills, Fairmont Udaipur Palace is a landmark hilltop destination resort that seamlessly integrates Rajasthan’s architectural heritage with contemporary luxury. Designed by Smallwood, the project responds to the vision of a husband-and-wife client whose passion for storytelling and experiential travel informed every aspect of the design. Drawing inspiration from the romantic narrative of the film Padmavat (A Royal Rajputana Love Story), the resort choreographs a guest journey structured around arrival, discovery, ceremony, enlightenment, and intimacy.

The elevated site offers a dramatic approach, with a carefully orchestrated driveway ascending through the landscape to culminate at a grand hotel lobby crowned by proportioned domes. From this vantage point, guests are introduced to expansive valley views and layered external terraces, finished in soft off-white tones that echo the timeless elegance of Rajasthan’s palatial architecture. This arrival sequence establishes a strong visual and experiential connection to Udaipur’s cultural and natural context.

Architecturally, the resort adopts a commanding fortress-like form, with stacked and proportioned massing that responds sensitively to the sloping terrain while minimising site disturbance. Interconnected courtyards, jharokha-inspired balconies, terraces, and layered roofscapes create fluid transitions between interior and exterior spaces, generating elevated pool decks, ceremonial platforms, and multifunctional gathering areas.

The resort comprises 327 rooms and suites, complemented by grand banquet halls, diverse food and beverage offerings, spas, pools, gardens, terraces, and recreational amenities. Stone façades, carved jaalis, and ornamental detailing are carefully curated to balance cultural authenticity with contemporary hospitality standards.
