Shortlisted: Interior Design Award Under 40 Metres

The International Yacht & Aviation Awards 2026

Sturge & Toth

Sturge & Toth has unveiled the interior of Orpheus, a yacht defined by a philosophy of quiet luxury that prioritises restraint, refined materials and a calm, residential atmosphere at sea. Developed for a first-time yacht owner with a strong design sensibility, the project reflects a highly considered approach where every detail has been specified from the outset.

Working closely with the client, Sturge & Toth translated a clear vision into a fully resolved interior, avoiding compromise or retrofitting. Premium fabrics, bespoke cabinetry and crafted metal details are combined with high-end finishes more typically associated with significantly larger custom yachts. The result is an environment where each element feels intentional, contributing to a cohesive and enduring design language.

Inspired by the understated elegance of brands such as Loro Piana and Minotti, the interior moves away from traditional nautical references. Instead, it embraces natural textures, tonal layering and soft lighting to create a composed and welcoming atmosphere. Extensive use of maple wood introduces warmth and continuity, reflecting the client’s professional background in retail environments where precision and material consistency are paramount.

Key spaces include a main saloon framed by panoramic glazing, where material restraint allows light and views to take precedence, and an upper-deck VIP suite with a private terrace. The yacht’s beach club is conceived as a sanctuary, complete with a sauna and direct access to the water, reinforcing the emphasis on comfort and wellbeing.

Built by Numarine, Orpheus balances private use with charter flexibility. Its layout extends living spaces outward, using large openings and uninterrupted sightlines to strengthen the connection between interior and sea. The design acts as a subtle backdrop, allowing the surrounding environment to remain visually dominant.

Compared to other yachts from Numarine, Orpheus stands out for its emphasis on craftsmanship and material richness. Marble surfaces, bespoke furniture and curated artwork introduce additional layers of detail and individuality, resulting in an interior that feels both sophisticated and deeply personal, designed for long-term comfort rather than immediate impact.
