Summer House

by The Design Code

Shortlisted: Interior Design Scheme - Middle East & Africas Award

The International Design & Architecture Awards 2024

In crafting the Summer House’s design, The Design Code envisioned a seamless fusion of indoor and outdoor spaces, harmoniously integrating nature’s elements while prioritising sustainability. At the main entrance and foyer, they ingeniously utilised a double-height ceiling to invite natural light into a space otherwise devoid of it. The playful arrangement of random floor tiles not only minimises the need for carpets but also adds a unique charm to the welcoming ambiance. Opting for light natural wood in furniture and cladding maintains a cosy atmosphere, setting the tone for a serene summer retreat.

One of The Design Code’s ingenious touches lies in the dining area, where a versatile dining table caters to both intimate gatherings and larger parties, reflecting adaptability at its finest. Mirrors strategically placed to amplify space, coupled with culturally inspired wall art, infuse character into the dining space. A nature-inspired partition visually delineates the dining area while seamlessly connecting it with the main seating area, fostering a natural flow throughout the house.

Throughout the interior, nature-inspired elements abound, each meticulously chosen to evoke a sense of tranquillity and connection with the surroundings. From chandeliers resembling sand grains and plant stems to wall art inspired by sea foam and foliage, every detail reflects an unwavering commitment to the theme. Sustainable materials take precedence, comprising nearly 90% of the house, aligning with The Design Code’s ethos of responsible design.

Customisation is key in The Design Code’s approach, with specially crafted pieces imbuing the space with a distinct identity. From the intricately designed entrance console to the bespoke fabrics and wall art, each element bears the mark of thoughtful craftsmanship. Even the smallest details, like fish-inspired curtain handles and specially commissioned paintings, contribute to the overall narrative of the space.

In essence, The Design Code has orchestrated a symphony of design elements, seamlessly blending form and function to create a beach house that not only embraces nature but also nurtures a sense of comfort and serenity. Through their meticulous attention to detail and unwavering commitment to sustainability, they have transformed a mere structure into a sanctuary where every corner tells a story of harmony and grace.
