Tone Interiors has brought a fresh vision to life at The Starr Inn in Great Dunmow, Essex, transforming a historic 16th-century Grade II listed coach house into an elegant yet inviting pub, restaurant, and lounge. The full refurbishment seamlessly blends heritage charm with contemporary style, creating a sophisticated venue that caters to both fine dining guests and casual local visitors.

The brief was to unite two previously separate ground-floor businesses into a single, cohesive space. Tone Interiors approached the challenge by crafting an open-plan layout, allowing a natural flow between the bespoke bar, lounge, and dining areas. Central to the design is a custom-built bar that serves as both a striking visual centrepiece and a social hub, enhancing the overall guest experience.

Rich materials and curated furnishings were selected to balance the formality of the venue’s elevated food offering with a sense of comfort and warmth. Deep navy and teal tones define the moody bar area, accented by plush Art Deco-inspired upholstery and marble tabletops. In contrast, the conservatory dining space offers a lighter, more serene setting, with soft greens and an eye-catching chandelier that sparkles in the natural light.

One of the most distinctive features is the Thibaut Wild Wisteria mural wallpaper, which creates a consistent visual identity across the venue while adding artistic depth and organic softness. Statement lighting plays a key role in the ambiance, with crystal chandeliers, smoky mirrors, and concealed lighting bringing understated luxury throughout.

From the flexible banquette seating to the beautifully detailed restrooms, Tone Interiors ensured that every detail was considered. The result is a stylish and accessible destination where history, elegance, and community come together in perfect harmony.
