Foreshew Design Associates
Foreshew Design Associates have been shortlisted for Residential Property Value Over £5 Million Award in The International Design and Architecture Awards 2021.
Rising from the Georgian Bay shores of Parry Sound is Foreshew Design Associates contemporary residential retreat. Integrating into its location the structure rises and falls with the bay and blends with the colours of the bedrock. Careful consideration was taken by the designers to turn the clients wishes into a reality without tarnishing the stunning environment that it is situated in.
Beach Bays Cottage is a sunset facing, lakeside home that has been designed to mesh with the surrounding landscape effortlessly. The designers ensured that the clients’ requests for the property were met by designing a cottage that provides great separation of social and private spaces. In the context of its inspiring location, Foreshew Design Associates worked to maximise the views wherever possible. The roof lines have been designed to rise low to high from entrance to lake to amplify the view of the lake and the sky. The structure itself is elongated to make great use of the entire bed rock – this feature also ensures that lake views were granted to all the rooms which the client had requested to have one.
The innovation behind this design was carefully selected to weave with the landscape, in which Foreshew Design Associates have given the project a great rise and fall when scanning the property left to right. When it came to selecting the exterior colours, Foreshew Design Associates made sure that they integrated well with the bed rock of Georgian Bay. Foreshew Design Associates’ close attention to the relationship between the property and the Bay continues with their use of materials. The decorative timber frame elements that run from exterior to interior add subtle excellence, and all stone used in the property was hand hewn by Valhalla Stoneworks and harvested on site.
Glass became a key material to this design in the interest of ensuring that the design did not clash with the calming surroundings and views towards this remained unobstructed. This is evident in areas such as the see-through wine display, “floating” staircase with decorative lighting, and outdoor dining with large stacking glass door which opens to an impressive bar. These also became some of the designer’s favourite aspects, along with working on the sunken living room, and the lake-facing sauna and gym.
