Alon Cohen Architecture have been shortlisted for Living Space – Global Award in The International Design and Architecture Awards 2021.

In this private villa, Alon Cohen Architecture uses a minimalistic canvas as a base for a flexible and timeless space. The main goal was to draw the garden into the living spaces, creating a harmonious connection between the atmospheres in the two areas.

The house was designed for a young family that loves music, nature, tranquillity, and precision. With this, there was a need for Alon Cohen Architecture to create a melody between function and materials. In this project, the studio wanted soft, natural, and a minimal use of colours. The soft grey microtipping floor finish is the basis of the space, with both living room and dining table sitting on a sisal carpet which provides a relaxing and vocational contrast. Focussing on paralleling the exterior space, the designers looked to keep the visual connection largely unobstructed. The large windows draw in the outdoor views, and by using a delicate white and limpid suspended light fixture the space remains in clear view. The grand piano is another main attraction when entering the house, sitting on the microtopping floor and surrounded by a full oak veneer wall that stretches across the entire living area.

Minimal in its concept, the design incorporates natural materials and colours to tie the interiors to the garden and pool area of the property. The lighting designs and wood working had to be created and used with sensitivity towards its central Israel location. In the hallway to the family room and bedrooms Alon Cohen Architecture wanted to create a more tranquil and cleansing atmosphere and designed a white space with a statement black mesh railing. Lighting this tall space is a Laverd fixture by Estiluz, layered with greenery to again add reference towards the exterior. These touches complete the space whilst ensuring that it remains elegant and modern.
