Amanda Evans Interiors
Amanda Evans Interiors have been shortlisted for Cityspace – Global Award in The International Design and Architecture Awards 2023.
Surrounded by panoramic views of the Lower Mainland, this Vancouver apartment holds the city as a prominent source of inspiration for its design. Amanda Evans Interiors invested a lot of thought into the built environment and how they could emphasise the breathtaking views rather than distract from them. Whilst working in the design phase with their client, they also quickly realised that while the apartment is beautiful by most people’s standards, it needed to be tailored to the owner’s tastes and functionality needs.
Amanda Evans Interiors set out to design a space that was both functional and aesthetically conscious without taking away from the incredible views of the North Shore mountains, the cityscape, and the Pacific Ocean. This is a home away from home for the clients, where they host events for their friends, and so the kitchen and living areas were reconfigured into an open-plan space, creating unobstructed views and room to include a custom-designed wet bar in the kitchen. To work for fashion-forward clients, the reconfiguration also included converting a bedroom into a dressing room to provide additional closet space to that of their walk-in closet in the principal bedroom. Having previously had insufficient lighting, the designers also dropped the ceiling two inches across the majority of the home and installed LED fixtures to properly highlight the design.
Many factors had to be taken into consideration for this project: the restrictions of the building parameters, the surrounding environment, and the clients’ desire to have a luxurious yet comfortable space to entertain in. It was pulled into a cohesive design by creating custom furniture and fixtures throughout and renovating areas of the apartment to bring it to a custom, high-end level. The views of the city are the driving force for the colour scheme and bespoke furniture pieces, helped by the commissioned art that features in the dining room, living room, and principal bedroom, with rich blues, soft gold, cream, taupe and dark mocha. Amanda Evans Interiors’ collaboration with Once A Tree furniture meant that each piece perfectly suits the space, such as the custom-designed area rug in the living room, as well as the custom millwork which was all designed in-house.
