Anna Standish Interiors
Anna Standish Interiors have been shortlisted for Living Space – Global Award in The International Design and Architecture Awards 2023.
This split-level living space naturally blends mid-century Mediterranean and Miami penthouse styles, featuring pastel stripes and colourful terrazzo. Locally sourced materials ground the property, whilst vintage finds and auction bought pieces add a personal touch. Key pieces of bespoke furniture are designed by Anna Standish Interiors in-house.
The brief, from longstanding clients of Anna Standish Interiors, was to work alongside the Menorcan based architects and builders, focusing their work on the interior design and functionality of the space. The footprint of the property was limited by the size of the plot of land, so the space needed to work efficiently, and flow seamlessly. The decor had to soften the hard lines of the modernist villa, and provide a relaxed charm, whilst using materials that ensure the villa was distinctly Mediterranean. Having previously worked with the clients on several projects, the designers were trusted completely to create a space that would reach its full potential, and they were given free rein on the design. Anna Standish Interiors completed the project by selecting all the home accessories, down to the tableware, bed linen and artwork.
Anna Standish Interiors built in an integrated ‘Balearics’ style sofa to the back wall, with views out to sea. Within it there is a TV that raises out of the back when required, flanked by a pair of custom designed armless sofas, orientating the sitter for the most optimal position. This soft seating area flows into the dining area, furnished with a beautiful vintage oval dining table and a ‘black and white’ striped veneered side cabinet, called ‘Archie Stripes’. This is designed by the Studio at Anna Standish Interiors and is now part of their Bespoke + Found Collection.
The project worked so well because the designers were able to soften the hard lines of this beautiful modernist villa, by giving the property elegance and soul. They specified surfaces with texture and patina. It was important to use locally sourced materials such as the ceiling clad in local Mares Stone and traditionally constructed with large wooden beams. Anna Standish Interiors aimed to ensure the property was easily distinguishable from the clients other properties they have decorated in both Bermuda and Belgravia, London.
