Arteriors have been Shortlisted for Seating – Chair Award in The International Design and Architecture Awards 2021.

A statement piece in every sense, Arteriors Hamza chair is a modern, reimagined spin on the classic barrel club chair. The finish of each Hamza chair will vary from piece to piece, as each one uses rattan it its natural, unstained form, with parts of the weaving traditionally done by hand.

Using both rattan pole and peel from the Southeast Asian tropics, the Hamza uses part of the plant that would otherwise be discarded as waste. The bending, wrapping, and weaving of the various forms of rattan is a highly skilled and technical art, a traditional craft that has been passed down from generations in the Philippines. The rounded arms seamlessly flow into a tightly wrapped pencil rattan back that sits low for maximum support. Arteriors complete the seat with a plush, exaggerated cushion for extreme comfort and functionality while adding to its modern design. With the option to upholster in any fabric of choice, its natural aesthetic allows this piece to easily blend with existing décor while still making a statement.

Concentric layers of thick, palm grey rattan poles frame the foundation of this elegantly eccentric and wildly organic chair. The unique design commands any space with it’s ability to be a focal point in the room. This piece has been created by Arteriors with the intention to highlight the interconnecting opposites of nature and object, handmade and machine, and the imperfect but impeccable. Hamza’s design plays with the marriage of these ideas for a modern expression of natural influences.
