Tell us a little about your background in design:
Originally from Cirencester, Gloucester I have always had a passion for design, starting from a love for drawing and an interest in photography and textiles from a young age. Since graduating from University of the Arts London with a first-class bachelor of honours degree in interior and spatial design I have gone on to work with prestigious clients and gained valuable experience whilst working for Rebecca James studio in London to Yacht designer Oliver Stacey in Cornwall. After a desire to travel, I decided to take my work overseas to Australia and New Zealand, this allowed me to experience a vast variety of interiors and trends within different environments such as working on high end properties in the mountains of Queenstown NZ. Combining these skills and experience I then went on to join the design team at Burbeck Interiors, London which has allowed me to continue to apply my expertise to style a range of unique properties from prestigious Kings road apartments with lavish styling to an eccentric and unique 18th century home in Soho.
How would you describe your personal design style?
I would say my personal design style would classical country style with a mix of contemporary. My dream would be to convert a barn in Cornwall on a sea cliff edge, with a mix of old and new materials. My design style would be to represent my character with a unique mix of accessories and artwork that has been collected from antique fairs and my travels.
Where does your design inspiration come from?
My design inspiration comes from all the cultures and places I have lived in and experienced, from cosy Cotswold cottages in Gloucester to the contemporary and chic new builds in the mountains of New Zealand. I am always inspired by London and the unique restaurants, secret speakeasy bars and lavish townhouses I get to visit through my job.
In what direction do you feel that design is moving towards in a general sense?
I feel that design is moving towards a more eclectic and quirkier look. I am enjoying using bold colours to make a statement in a room as well as a range of patterns in the materials. I also have moved towards using a mix of artwork, from contemporary to classical pieces. I am enjoying the use of organic forms in furniture and the use of faces and figures to create a bold expression in my designs.
Name five key themes to consider when approaching design in 2020 and beyond.
If you could offer one piece of advice when it comes to design schemes, what would it be?
A balanced colour scheme mixing bold colours cleverly used with a neutral palette.

It is an honour to enter this home into The International Design and Architecture Awards, the platform for opportunity and inspiration for designers and creatives alike from the breadth and quality of entries is a huge element of this prestigious awards.
What projects are you currently working on?
I am currently working on a beautiful three-bedroom apartment scheme in Kensington, London. The design scheme is very luxurious with a soft, layered, neutral palette in its soft furnishing, and vibrant and large artwork displayed on the walls.
What was your favourite project to work on and why?
D’Arblay Street has to be my favourite project as it was such a unique and rare building to have the chance to work on in such a vibrant part of London. Having the opportunity to work with D’arblay was a one-off experience, very rarely do you get to see such a classic property with so much tastefully and modern quirks such as the glass floored upstairs library and hidden steam room. Using Linwood fabrics to create the stunning blue patterned headboard for the Master bedroom was my favourite feature of the house as well as designing the lavish L-Shape sofa in fabric from Kai in the stunning claret velvet with the matching tasselled tub chair in the main reception room. This was a very fulfilling project, getting to mix a variety of eccentric artwork with bold colours and prints.
What was your most challenging project to work on and why?
Lansdowne Road – a Notting hill situated house. This property was an extremely narrow and tall building with a very vibrant colour scheme throughout the property. Having to embrace the eccentric patterned wallpapered walls from floor to ceiling was a challenge, I approached this project by embracing the colour pattern, with a tasteful manner. Using shapely figures and organic forms for the accessories and furniture with a collage of colourful art on the walls.
Which products/services could you not live without when designing?
Antiques and unique gems that you can’t find anywhere else. Upholstering an old piece of furniture with a beautiful material making it look brand new.
What are your aims and goals for the next twelve months?
To carry on designing beautiful and unique spaces, showing my individuality and character throughout as well as travels more countries to gain further inspiration towards my designs.
Final thoughts; tell us a little more about yourself and your daily inspirations:

My collection of silver jewellery, all of which is symbolic to me that is given from friends and past down from family over the years. The value of each item is unquantifiable to me!
Your favourite holiday destination?
New Zealand! I lived in Queenstown, South Island for 2 years, with the most diverse and stunning scenery of any country I’ve been to.
Your favourite hotel, restaurant & bar?
Babington house, Somerset – Very beautiful, a great spot for summer with its amazing scenery and pool to relax in the sunshine.
Restaurant Mine, Cornwall – a favourite spot of mine, with its fresh fish dishes that goes down perfectly with Cornwall’s local white wine.
Atlas rooftop bar, Queenstown NZ – The best NZ red wines that you can enjoy as you can sit in front of the fire pit, taking in the lake and mountain view.
Your favourite book, film & song?
The Monk that sold his Ferrari – a very inspiring book.
I’m not a huge film buff but Notting hill is always a go to classic.
Wish You Were Here – Pink Floyd. I was brought up with my dad playing this constantly on the guitar and it’s always been a favourite.
Your favourite food and drink?
I’m a big lover of tapas and charcuterie, a night in with a soft baked cheese, cured meats and a Spanish red wine has to be my all time favourite.
Your favourite way to spend an afternoon?
I love to be outdoors; it would be either hiking up a mountain with a picnic at the top surrounded by an epic view or on the beach back home in Cornwall in the sunshine with my dogs.
If you weren’t a designer, what would you be?
I have always wanted to be a designer for as long as I can remember, if I wasn’t I would be content being a fine artist with a beautiful art studio surrounded by stunning scenery.
