Tell us a little about your background in design (education, experience, etc)
I studied Architecture and Cadd (Ion Mincu, University or Architecture and Urbanism Bucharest, Romania and Spiru Harret University), then moved to Canada in 2000, working for a few architectural companies in Toronto until 2006 when I’ve started my own company.
I have vast experience in Health Care interior architecture and design until I completely pivoted towards the Residential design and architecture. Since 2006 I’ve been working and designing high end custom homes and product design…
I love providing vibrant solutions to clients’ needs and spaces.

How would you describe your personal design style?
My style is defined by a spirited approach to design, integrating a perfect harmony between colours, textures shapes and proportions.

Where does your design inspiration come from?
The day-by-day human interaction, natural elements, and movements.

In what direction do you feel that design is moving towards in a general sense?
A practical use of spaces, natural finishes and lighting, beauty within simplicity, sophistication in details executions.

Name five key themes to consider when approaching design in 2020 and beyond.
-Natural lighting, the dance of shadows casts by articulated, clean looking volumes
-Hope – material selected to lift spirits and brighten one’s experience
-Symphony – a quiet, harmonious concert determined by elements in a space
-Environmentally friendly materials and finishes
-Human experience and interaction with their space

If you could offer one piece of advice when it comes to design schemes, what would it be?
Layer your options. Start with muted themes and add up the details and vibration and always maintain the harmony of the space.

How important are The International Design & Architecture Awards?
For an introvert like me, the awards are acknowledgement and encouragement. A spotlight on quality of a thought, process, and final product.

What projects are you currently working on?
Multiple complex residential projects in Toronto and Europe.

What was your favourite project to work on and why?
Every project and every client are my favourite project. Each brings in new challenges and skills.

What was your most challenging project to work on and why?
Recently I have worked on a very complex project where absolutely every single element was custom made, specifically designed for the client. I love the uniqueness and the complexity of that project that was successfully done considering all the challenges that came with it.

Which products/services could you not live without when designing?
Pen and paper – sketching before starting a cadd drawing. I cannot live without autocad.
I can’t design without my unique library and books around me, my office is always a mess as I pull everything out when I design.
I couldn’t live or design without music – the music is a determining factor in the overall project vibration – from Chopin to Pearl Jam.

What are your aims and goals for the next twelve months?
Starting a custom furniture line.

Final thoughts; tell us a little more about yourself and your daily inspirations:

Your most treasured possession? My family

Your favourite holiday destination? Europe – everywhere in Europe

Your favourite hotel, restaurant & bar? I don’t have any, I guess I like them all… the way I feel is not always determined by the place I stay in.

Your favourite book, film & song? Oh, wow, this will be a long list! but I will start with Agony and Ecstasy(Irving Stone), Schindler’s List and Mercy Street(Peter Gabriel).

Your favourite food and drink? Popcorn and red wine

If you weren’t a designer, what would you be? A set designer for a movie or a play

Anything else interesting? I love being in my Universe, surrounded by elements and things that make me and my family happy.
