Hali MacDonald Interiors Inc.
Hali MacDonald Interiors Inc. have been shortlisted for Interior Design Scheme – Canada Award in The International Design and Architecture Awards 2021.
The goal for Burgundy Project was to create comfort and approachability whilst retaining a layered and collected interior design. Hali MacDonald Interiors has a strong appreciation for antiques and wanted this property to feel as if it had been there for quite some time. Hali wanted to recreate the warmth that you get from much older homes. The finished product gives an old world feel with modern day practicality and blends antiques and traditional elements with clean lines.
Throughout the build/ design process Hali MacDonald Interiors were very aware of both their impact on the environment as well as the impact that different products they selected would have on living in the home. The designers tried to source products locally whenever possible and chose materials and fabrics that had minimal off- gassing. As a lover of the outdoors, Hali drew a lot of inspiration from nature and elements in their natural state. The natural patina that develops over time is something that should be celebrated and when put into a space gives the room more depth and interest.
Hali MacDonald Interiors used talented artisans throughout the house. Wonderful carpenters that figured out how to properly create the architectural staircase, a talented metal smith that fabricated the custom blackened steel and brass range hood, plaster crown mouldings and vent covers done with impeccable attention to detail. Custom leaded glass work that is used in the kitchen cabinetry doors and transom over doorways. Wonderful stone fabricators and the list goes on. The house would not be what it is without the talent of these amazing artisans.
The key aspect of this project is that each room has its own personality, but all the spaces blend seamlessly together and complement one another. Hali MacDonald Interiors think Burgundy Project is a good example of the interest you can create in a space by blending different contrasting styles. Mixing new pieces with antiques, traditional with modern, white and bright with color/ pattern and texture and so on. Walking the line between styles can make a space feel special and more interesting to the eye!
