KA DesignWorks have been shortlisted for Regeneration/Restoration Award in The International Design and Architecture Awards 2023.

KA DesignWorks recently completed an impressive regeneration project that transformed a 1980s Lindal Cedar A-Frame kit home in the Holland Hills neighbourhood of Basalt, Colorado. The project involved a complete gut and renovation, as well as a 55 square meter addition, resulting in a functional and modern marvel.

Prior to the renovation, the existing three-level home offered cramped living spaces with four small bedrooms. KA DesignWorks addressed these limitations by adding a 55 square meter addition above the garage, effectively expanding the living area. The great room was doubled in size, creating a spacious and inviting gathering space. Additionally, the renovation allowed for a proper master suite, two additional en-suite bedrooms, and family/sitting rooms on both secondary levels.

The design team paid special attention to optimizing the flow and functionality of the home. They strategically raised the ceiling in the great room to match the upper level floor, allowing for an open and airy atmosphere. Fenestration was strategically added to capture scenic views and flood the space with natural light, enhancing the overall ambiance.

The addition of a more formal entry not only improved the building’s aesthetics but also enhanced the functionality of the space. KA DesignWorks succeeded in revitalizing the property and dramatically improving the liveability of the residence.

Inside, the modern interior design is both beautiful and functional. A neutral colour palette serves as a backdrop for furnishings that provide brilliant pops of colour and interest. The design cleverly combines sleek, minimalist elements with rustic rugs and art, creating a captivating interplay of textures and visual intrigue.

The abundance of natural light enhances the home’s polished and effortless style, making it a cosy and inviting retreat for its occupants. Overall, KA DesignWorks accomplished an exceptional regeneration project, transforming the once cramped and dated kit home into a contemporary masterpiece that blends seamlessly with its picturesque surroundings in Basalt, Colorado.
