How would you describe your personal design style?

Avid’s team works closely with each client to create a custom design that combines both the clients needs and desires, in Anna’s signature style. Whether it’s a custom new built home, a renovation, or furniture and décor procurement, Avid’s commitment is to take a sincere and personal approach with each client to ensure the design vision is carried through. Anna’s designs are timeless, functional and perfectly suited to our client’s lifestyles.

Where does your design inspiration come from?

The simplicity and complexity of the natural world.Truly, inspiration comes when it is least expected and when we are not looking for it. Anna loves to be in nature and to travel. IT is when her focus is on enjoying the moment and embracing the beauty of life that encourages the most brilliant ideas. When doing something completely unrelated to a design project when she is surprised with life’s greatest gifts and inspirational ideas.

In what direction do you feel that design is moving towards in a general sense?

What has been on the forefront of great design for quite some time and will continue to be in the future is incorporating technology and sustainability into our homes and work environments. As technology changes so frequently, we need to design spaces that will be adaptive and relevant for years to come.

Name five key themes to consider when approaching design in 2023 and beyond.

When it comes to interior design, we like to bend the rules and create a space that is perfectly suited to each client and their lifestyles. With every project, we always need to consider these key things – Purpose and Importance, Longevity and Durability; Style and Aesthetics, Budget and Timeline, Harmony and Balance.

If you could offer one piece of advice when it comes to design schemes, what would it be?

If you don’t love something, don’t have it in your space.

What projects are you currently working on?

Currently, we are working on multiple residential projects – a few custom new build estate homes, several renovation projects and all in which include furniture and décor procurement.

What was your favourite project to work on and why?

That is so hard to decide on just one favourite project! There are so many. What has been the most rewarding part of the projects that we have worked on is the relationships that we have developed and maintained long after a project has completed.

What was your most challenging project to work on and why?

The most challenging project(s) that we have encountered was during the pandemic. It was such a very busy time for us, but there were so many limitations to overcome in order to see our projects through to completion. As we all know, there were supply chain issues and world-wide product shortages which drove up the prices for everything, so our projects were over budget and were not completed for the projected timelines. It wasn’t ideal, but we persevered.

Which products/services could you not live without when designing?

Aside from the advancements in technology that we rely on every day to make our job easier, it is the incredible support of everyone involved to see our projects through to completion. Everyone from my talented design team to our amazing suppliers and installers. Without the skillset of our trusted community to see our design vision through to completion, none of this would be possible.

What are your aims and goals for the next twelve months?

As designers, it is our responsibility to implement sustainable and environmentally conscious solutions that reduce the impact on our environment. Not only today, but every day. From the very start of all our projects, our goal is to reduce 100% of waste diversion from the landfill and to reduce, reuse and recycle wherever possible; and to educate others in the process. By that, we consider absolutely every aspect of sustainability for our projects.

Final thoughts; tell us a little more about yourself and your daily inspirations:

Your most treasured possession?

My wonderful family and friends.

Your favourite holiday destination?

Although I love to travel the world and explore new places, we have a holiday home in beautifully warm Cabo San Lucas, Mexico so we frequent there often. During our Canadian winters, we especially love to escape and go to the beach!

Your favourite hotel, restaurant & bar?

That is a loaded question. Having the incredible opportunity to travel.

Your favourite book, film & song?

That is another loaded question. Truly, it depends on the kind of mood that I am in when a book, a movie or song resonate with me. That said, a book I have read over and over is ‘The Greatest Secret’ by Rhonda Byrne. A movie that I have watched multiple times is ‘The Notebook’. A song that I have listened to on repeat, but still love it is ‘Nightwave’ by Wolfclub.

Your favourite food and drink?

A fresh croissant and strong coffee.

Your favourite way to spend an afternoon?

If I’m not working, I love to be at the spa. It is the best way to relax.

If you weren’t a designer, what would you be?

Honestly, I love what I do and wouldn’t want to do anything else.
