Tell us a little about your background in design (education, experience, etc)

After graduating from university, Ryoko worked as an architect at a major general construction company and later studying interior design  at The Interior design school in London. With a master’s degree in Fine Arts specialising in Japanese wooden architecture.

How would you describe your personal design style?

My design are influenced by my deep appreciation for  the beauty of  our planet Earth, as well as my admiratation for traditional Japanese craftmanship. 

Where does your design inspiration come from?

Near the nature..

Sometimes when I’m taking a bath, even when I’m driving in the car

In what direction do you feel that design is moving towards in a general sense?

In my case, recently, I feel that it is also important to value connections with people, appreciation for the earth, and individual and national identity. I feel that it will be a good fusion of different things.

Name five key themes to consider when approaching design in 2022 and beyond.

Sustainable, Fusion (East-meets-West), Traditional crafts, Beautiful details, Imagination.

If you could offer one piece of advice when it comes to design schemes, what would it be?

I think of design schemes wishing for the happiness of clients and their families.

How important are The International Design & Architecture Awards?

For me, it’s the most important award. It gives me wings to the world.

What projects are you currently working on?

・Planning a new museum.

・Renovation of some residences.

What was your favourite project to work on and why?

I would love to do these jobs, luxury residences, mancaves, yacht interiors, Hotel  interior overseas projects.

Because I would like to make my potential bloom more and more.

What was your most challenging project to work on and why?

I don’t understand. Even if it is difficult, I do not consider it difficult. I enjoy solving puzzles.

Which products/services could you not live without when designing?

We always check with 3D or models. Zoom and Skype tools are also very important.

What are your aims and goals for the next twelve months?

It is to let the market know Ron Design and get a fun new job.

Your most treasured possession?

Spending time with family.

Your favourite holiday destination?

Time spent in a place with an ocean view.

Your favourite hotel, restaurant & bar?

Hotel Lutetia in Paris, Aman Kyoto.

Gion Kawakami, Zeniya Kanazawa.

Your favourite book, film & song?
New Cinema Paradise, The Godfather.

Your favourite food and drink?

I love eating anything. I especially like Japanese food and Italian food. As for drinks, I like wine. 

Also, I like to drink matcha.

The Perini I drank in Capri the other day is the best.

Every time I travel, I bring matcha.

Your favourite way to spend an afternoon?

Spend time watching Netflix. Sometimes I go shopping in Ginza.

If you weren’t a designer, what would you be?
I’d like to be a film director, but I still want to be a designer even if I’m reborn.

Anything else interesting?

I like watching ballet and musicals.

My favourite ballet is Romeo and Juliet, and I love the musical Mamma Mia.
