John Cullen Lighting
John Cullen Lighting have been shortlisted for Lighting Scheme Award in The International Design and Architecture Awards 2023.
John Cullen Lighting, a renowned lighting design company, recently completed a stunning lighting project for a traditional property, infusing it with a contemporary flair and versatility.
The challenge for John Cullen Lighting was to design a creative and flexible lighting scheme without the use of downlights in the main floor areas, where the ceilings were listed. The clients’ love for hosting cocktail parties and formal dinner gatherings inspired the team to create a dynamic lighting design that allowed them to change the mood of each space with ease. To achieve this, numerous lighting scenes were carefully curated in each room.
In the reception and dining rooms, a combination of bold decorative lights and integrated lighting was employed to provide a captivating ambiance. The team strategically placed 2700k Contour HD27 LED strips at the back of shelves, creating a dramatic effect and adding depth to the space. Miniature Vorsa Dots were used to illuminate artwork, adding a touch of sparkle to the room. Additionally, Contour HD27 LED strips were placed above joinery units to highlight the intricate ceiling cornice, ensuring it remained a prominent feature even at night.
Illuminating the artworks was another crucial aspect of the project. John Cullen Lighting carefully selected their Wallace picture light to enhance the art in the reception room, entrance, and stairs, adding an elegant touch to the overall design.
Dramatic pendants, chosen by Tollgard Studio, became the key features in the dining room, staircase, and reception room, infusing these areas with character and charm. The architectural lights were discreetly placed and concealed from view whenever possible, serving to accentuate fabrics and furniture, adding interest and depth to the space. In the kitchen and bathrooms, the lights provided task lighting, ensuring functionality without compromising on style.
The integration of lighting into two joinery units proved to be a favorite aspect for the team. Meticulous meetings with the joiner and interior designer were conducted to ensure the finished details minimized glare, creating a seamless and harmonious integration of lighting into the joinery. As a result, only the stunning lighting effects were visible, elevating the overall design.
