Laura U Design Collective
Laura U Design Collective have been Shortlisted for Living Space – Americas Award in The International Design and Architecture Awards.
Nestled in the heart of historic homes in Houston, TX, this 5,100 square feet contemporary residence stands in contrast to the neighborhood’s historic and Victorian-style homes. To match its modern facade, the Laura U Design Collective team designed an elegant formal living space, one that greets guests with bold colour and handsome woodwork.
Upon entering the home, you are introduced to an open concept. The foyer greets you with organic tones of charcoal, sage green, burnt sienna and pale gold, filling the space with warmth and depth. A living edge console from Noir – made with reclaimed wood and a slow-age wax finish – leads you to a bold saturated wall made of dark tile. Off the entryway is a handsome study featuring a dramatic chimney breast with gold-veined black marble and a gorgeous matte finish. The study also boasts a beautiful Milano Desk with Smoked Glass top by Gallotti & Radice — a historic Italian furnishings company dating to the mid-century and specializing in glassworks.
From the study your eye is quickly drawn to the oxblood Kravet sofa and moody Theodore Alexander cocktail table in the formal living room. From there, you are beckoned to the custom textured chaise where any lucky guests could cozy up next to the floor to ceiling fireplace with an after-dinner aperitif. The details are not to be remised. The use of refined finishes such as leather, walnut, oak, and cordovan communicate the grandeur of the space. The homeowner’s handsome piano accompanied by a soft cream boucle bench rests in the corner, welcoming you into the room.
From the piano, you can endearingly watch memories unfold as friends laugh around the dining room table. With the homeowners love of entertaining, the dining room is definitely a showstopper. With unique wall coverings and handblown glass wall vessels mounted on the wall there is no lack of visual interest. Cantoni Trade chairs surround the bold dining table, reflecting the dynamic, futuristic shape of the chandelier overhead. The chandelier and wallcoverings in the dining room come together to create a calming yet invigorating interior shockingly alive despite its neutral color scheme.
The homeowners allowed the Laura U Design Collective team wide latitude to design their space. While the couple did not have a fully formed vision for their home, they desired a beautifully designed space to relax and entertain without issue. As such, the team was able to exercise their creativity and ingenuity to find incredible pieces that wowed their clients yet fit in perfectly with the rest of the home’s interior and architecture.
