Laura U Design Collective

Viscaino by Laura U Design Collective

Laura U Design Collective have been Shortlisted for Interior Design Scheme – Americas Award in The International Design and Architecture Awards.

Built in 1962, this stunning Pebble Beach estate underwent a modern renovation before the Laura U Design Collective team completely transformed the home with sophisticated palettes and playful details. Having moved to Pebble Beach, CA from Houston, TX, they were hoping to embrace a California Cool aesthetic, with a couple of touches from home. For the homeowners, liveable luxury was their top priority, balancing youthfulness, and sophistication in a modern space.

With three young girls with adventurous spirits, the Laura U Design Collective team knew their space needed to be creative and full of personality. The goal of their design was to keep a bright and airy feel, but also allow for colour. Family friendly spots, like the girls’ rooms, were great canvases for creativity.

In the living areas, the Laura U Design Collective team created a welcoming and inviting feel with neutral shades concentrating on aesthetic masterpieces. They re-designed the existing beams to be more impactful, added Venetian plaster to the walls to create depth, and added custom burl wood cabinets that balances the tones and scale of the stone fireplace. The Yearbook Totem from Karen Hawkins and the three-dimensional dynamic piece by Donald Martiny create texture and visual interest in the formal living room. In the dining room, they continue the exploration of sandy neutral tones and textures through the pairing of a tonal wall coverings, plaster convex mirrors, and cerused oak finishes. Topped off with beautiful panoramic views of the coast, this dining room is the perfect place for dinner with family and friends.

The cohesiveness of this project is largely owed to the clients existing art collection that allowed Laura U Design Collective to introduce a wide range of colours and patterns. Every piece was intentionally placed, not only acting as a beautiful, standalone element in its room, but also referencing a room that visitors experienced in another part of the home. In the family room one of Damien Hirst’s well-known dot paintings hangs above the mantel contrasting from the neutral tones used throughout the room. From the entryway, one can peer through to the hall and discover the vibrant piece from Ken Tate. With his sexy subject matter, the spattering of colour electrifies. And this burst of colourful fun introduces you to the personalities of the homeowners without saying a word.
