How would you describe your design style?
Martin Moore began designing and making bespoke handmade kitchens over 47 years ago in our hallmark style of classic English furniture. I like to build on this heritage incorporating luxurious, rare materials with pared down detailing to give a contemporary aesthetic.

Where does your design inspiration come from?
The collections are influenced by the timeless, elegant symmetry and scale found in the work of architectural pioneers such as Inigo Jones. The result is furniture that not only fulfils its function perfectly but also fits effortlessly into the British housing stock.

In what direction do you feel design is moving?
We are moving away from large open-plan kitchens into a more broken-plan layout. The kitchen is now the hub of the home – made more so by people working from home – and so an ordered, clutter-free and quiet environment is important. We create a calm central area for family and friends to gather, cook and eat and then design a series of rooms including walk-in pantries, boot rooms, utility and laundry rooms, even incorporating dog showers.

What is your one piece of advice when it comes to design schemes?
Bespoke is key. No two families are the same. Every project should be a custom solution to suit you, your individual house and lifestyle.

How important are The International Design & Architecture Awards?
Not only is it wonderful to recognise and celebrate the exceptional designers within the interior design industry it is important to support them and British manufacturers who make ethical and sustainable considerations a priority.

What projects are you currently working on?
Following on from my latest New Deco Kitchen – which was the inspiration for our entry to the awards – I am creating a brand-new collection to be launched in 2023. Again, luxurious materials play an important role with tall, elegant door panels finished with custom-made bronze handles and clad in dramatically veined marble or porcelain.

Which products/services could you not live without when designing?Function is as important as form and there is a myriad of innovative storage solutions that change a good kitchen into a great one. At the moment I am incorporating super clever wine bottle storage into larders and pantries.

What are your goals for the next 12 months?
I am always searching for interesting and innovative materials. These often evolve from working with clients and designers on a project where we have sourced or developed a specific material or finish which then becomes part of our offering.
