Mokka Design have been shortlisted for Luxury Residence – London Award in The International Design and Architecture Awards 2023.

Recently refurbished; this Grade II listed building was transformed to provide high-end residences with ornate decorative ceilings and beautifully considered architectural details. This was the perfect canvas with which Mokka Design could personalise for their young client and they were provided with a brief for full furnishing of the apartment and complete decoration.

The clients’ love for Paris stirred Mokka Design to seek inspiration from Parisian style décor and this was synonymous with the backdrop provided, high ceilings, adorned plasterwork, detailed fireplaces, herringbone floors, white walls and floor to ceiling windows. The client wanted to fill this empty space with unique, one-of-a-kind pieces of furniture to capture the iconic, cosmopolitan look they had experienced on their travels.

The elegant classical features of the living and dining room inspired the addition of antique style chandeliers and traditional decorative mirrors throughout the apartment. These are mixed with simple contemporary furniture shapes rooted in early to mid 20th century design. This unrestrained, curated mix of old and new provokes the mood and lifestyle reflected in that signature ‘laissez faire’ effortless look the client was seeking to create.

The client also expressed their preference for soft pastels colours, relaxed textured fabrics, and a sophisticated mix of natural materials, including timeless marble and understated bronze metal finishes. Many of the marble slabs were hand selected for the project, ensuring they had enough character and movement.

Comfort and luxury were key to the client’s brief, they wanted a sizeable sofa and generous armchairs that could accommodate all of their family and friends. Along with accessories and artwork, all the smallest details were considered from personalised embroidered bed linen to ensuring the client’s preference of flowers, coffee and chocolate were installed in the apartment.

The transient elements of the apartment such as the furniture are contemporary and playful, whilst the apartment remains timeless and elegant.
