Palmerston Design Consultants
Palmerston Design Consultants have been shortlisted for Living Space – Canada Award in The International Design and Architecture Awards 2021.
This colourful and modern family home is located in the middle of Forest Hill, an established residential neighbourhood. It has been designed with the client in the foreground, with a focus on her interests and character. Though the home does not sit on a large lot, it benefits from incredible light and space which Palmerston Design Consultants wanted to expand on.
The main goal of the design brief was to create a lively and contemporary home that could be lived in. The client had to feel comfortable, but the interiors should feel slighting industrial and cool. The interior design has been built up from a neutral base and natural materials. Cool tones are introduced in the furnishings, which are paired with clean lines for a modern aesthetic. Textures, colours, and materials are layered for comfort – neither too cluttered nor empty.
The home speaks to the style and interests of Palmerston Design Consultants’ clients. Their Architect, Richard Librach, worked closely with the clients to create the light and space, and they addressed their desire for interest and colour within the interiors. In particular, the designers loved how the kitchen came together. The client is an avid cook and so they chose to design the space in-house and tailor it to her every desire. Norcab, a local millwork company, built this custom kitchen based on the detailed designs they were given Palmerston Design Consultants.
The designers looked to work with specialists where possible in this project. The custom lighting fixture and dining table are placed at the heart of this space, and with a modern industrial style in mind, Palmerston Design Consultants worked with local industrial design firm Commute to create these pieces. The steel shelving unit in one of the living areas was fabricated by Six Penny and assembled inside the home, tying together the design vision and functionality. They also worked with local metal worker, Danbre, to build the custom stainless steel island and hood vent in the kitchen. All of these talented people became integral to designing and achieving this unique space.
