Betsy Brown Interiors have been Shortlisted for Interior Design Scheme – America Award in The International Design and Architecture Awards 2022.

Peace on the Lake is a lake house for a large family in the southern United States, designed in concert with Jeffery Dungan Architects.

Built on a peninsula on a pristine lake in south Alabama, the goal was a peaceful, timeless house, with pieces that could have been collected over time. The clients asked for a beautiful gathering place for their two daughters and three grandchildren, with unpretentious, understated elegance, organic materials, and a layered collection of modern art and vintage furniture. They asked that the design also showcases their extensive art collection.

The living room is a steel and glass box, offering beautiful water views on three sides. A soaring stone fireplace anchors comfortable sofas, a pair of mid-century chairs by Viennese designer, Martin Eilser, and a large, low coffee table made of very old slabs of Italian walnut. The white paster and ebonized oak kitchen/keeping room holds a 17-foot sofa and a round, dark walnut table designed by Betsy Brown, Inc, surrounded by leather chairs by mid-century designer, Kaare Klint. The designers worked with the clients to build a lively collection of vintage pieces, but also designed the pieces that had specific storage needs. The material scheme is a blend of natural materials – natural white oak, ebonized oak, steel, patinated cognac leather and linen textiles.

The result is a warm, intimate family home, filled with art, that will stand the test of time for a wonderful family.
