POGGENPOHL
Poggenpohl have been shortlisted for Kitchen Design Over £100,000 Award in The International Design and Architecture 2021.
Poggenpohl’s client required a brand new fully functional kitchen, both clients are keen cooks, but they also wanted the kitchen space to be used for entertaining as well as general family life. Therefore, Poggenpohl decided to blur the lines between kitchen and living space to make the most out of both areas.
The kitchen was to discreetly form and blend into the backdrop of the room. The kitchen was to discreetly form and blend into the backdrop of the room. Bearing this in mind the chosen concept was Segmento – a handless furniture style, eliminating the need for handles. Thus all cabinetry is push to open, adding to the simplicity of the overall design. Poggenpohl implemented pocket doors which unveiled a breakfast area, as well as secret doors leading on to a utility room. The kitchen was a canvas of soft Pebble Grey silk matt lacquer, uplifted using Florim Calacatta Gold worktops and cladding which showcased roads of gold and grey veins. The spaces have been illuminated elegantly by soft warm lighting.
Each appliance had been cherry picked to complement the overall colour scheme of the project as well as function. Iconic brushed Gold Zip taps and state of the art Anthracite Gaggenau ovens pulled together the simple but luxurious colour scheme. Poggenpohl naturally had to maximise on storage space, building right to the top of the walls with top boxes above the tall cabinetry. This also discreetly enhanced the horizontal profile lines joining the furniture.
The overall colour palette blends beautifully into the space but also clearly stands separate. Using the specification of the soft furnishings, flooring, windows, and doors chosen by the client, the appliances and finishes compliment, bringing the entire room together seamlessly as one. The natural appearance of the Pebble Grey lacquer also trickles into the garden area outside.
The design works well because the spaces and the colour scheme are both part of the overall design of the room but separated at the same time. The clients were so happy and open to Poggenpohl’s suggestions, it was a very personal project for the designer and every detail of their brief was carefully adhered to. The designer’s favourite aspects of this project are the colour scheme and use of materials with no limitation.
