Tell us a little about your background in design:
After gaining a degree in Drama & Theatre Studies, I was lucky enough to work in the West End in the theatre industry doing Marketing, PR & account handling for 12 years. It was a wonderful career but after designing various properties of my own and homes for friends and realising it was some-thing I had a real passion for, I felt it was time for a change. I decided to bite the bullet and went to KLC school of Design in Chelsea Harbour to study Interior Design.

Straight from KLC I was lucky to be able to secure a six month internship at a leading design company in North London. After 12 years in another industry it was tough to start from scratch again but I knew it would be invaluable to gain hands on experience in a design studio. This ultimately turned into a full-time role and I ended up there for 7 years and became a Senior Designer gaining the chance to work on some fantastic projects with some great clients which was invaluable in giving me confidence, knowledge and experience! It was at this point that I felt it was the right time to set up my own Interior Design Studio.

Almost 12 years on I have never looked back! We have worked on some incredible projects including large-scale family homes across all of London, numerous apartments of varying styles in London as well as an apartment in Russia, expansive new-build residential properties in Berkshire, Hertfordshire & Nottingham and also have collaborated alongside various developers on a number of show homes and development properties.

How would you describe your personal design style?
Eclectic mix of classic, contemporary, vintage & mid century.

Where does your design inspiration come from?
Everywhere – from holidays and travel, to magazines and nature and even the way I live myself too with my own family.

In what direction do you feel that design is moving towards in a general sense?
With the new way of working for so many given the pandemic, the design of interesting, dynamic and functional spaces to work from home are paramount. Alongside this and given this past year the use of space in our homes and the ability to close off spaces and make them multi-functional will continue to be important.

In the same vein, home gyms / spaces to exercise are something we are being asked to frequently design. Cohesive Indoor / outdoor design continues to be increasingly important in the way we entertain. Interesting outdoor living rooms, dining spaces and outdoor kitchens are extremely popular and will continue to be.

Warm tones, earthy palettes and calming colours continue to be popular and we always get asked to use colour in interesting ways in all the properties we design. After this year people want to find added comfort and warmth in their homes.

Eco Friendly design considerations continue to be important and the ongoing use of natural materials.

If you could offer one piece of advice when it comes to design schemes, what would it be?
Ensure a cohesive flow throughout a home or spaces – One which feels natural when going from room to room and one which takes into consideration the use of each space and the natural light each space/room has.

How important are The International Design & Architecture Awards?
Bringing together the International platform and recognising talent from all countries and in so many areas of design is incredibly important.

What projects are you currently working on?
4 largescale residential home renovations & working with a property developer on a development project with 19 apartments and the show apartment.

What was your favourite project to work on and why?
Woodland Manor has by far been the most favourite & largescale project we have worked on. Given the scale & size of the property and the fact that it was a new-build property gave us a black canvas. From a design perspective it also meant we had the time and budget to really push boundaries and be incredibly creative and to collaborate with a huge host of different trades and artisans.

What was your most challenging project to work on and why?
In the same vein as being my most favourite and largescale project to work on Woodland Manor was also the most challenging. The design process spanned 3 years start to finish. The design and scope of the actual house size and planning permissions before we even started the internal design process kept changing. The house began externally planned as a smaller and much more contemporary style home but the clients then decided to change to a more classic Georgian feel and to increase the overall size to 15,000 square foot plus out buildings. Given the overall scope of the project and the time-span it was challenging but also hugely rewarding.

Which products/services could you not live without when designing?
Our trusted upholsterers & curtain makers / Talented & creative artisans & trades we have built long standing relationships / Incredible & hard working contractors we collaborate with / Lighting, fabric & furniture suppliers

What are your aims and goals for the next twelve months?
I would love to work on a property overseas and would also like to develop further collaborative relationships with property developers whilst still working on our ongoing residential projects. It would also be wonderful to design a boutique hotel & a restaurant one day too. I have a secret passion to write a design book too but probably cannot fit that in too in the next twelve months whilst also juggling teenage kids & family life!
