Rowlands Associates have been shortlisted for Cityspace – Global Award in The International Design and Architecture Awards 2021.

This condominium renovation by Rowlands Associates was developed from a foundation of relaxed city living. With a great location of downtown Toronto, the design for this one bedroom suite has been carefully considered for it’s functionality within the client’s lifestyle and needs.

Introduced to the project in order to upgrade the one bedroom suite, Rowlands Associates were to transform the condo into a pied a terre for their clients, whose main residence is a country home. The design brief was to provide a casual and relaxed space for the clients whilst still providing them with the tools and amenities that are needed to balance both a busy social and work life.

This is a simple space but one which will set the stage for the client’s great collection of art and fun times with their closest friends. The choice of flooring throughout the property became hugely impactful on setting the mood for the overall scheme of the condo; functional, sleek and modern. The group of sub-contractors and craftspeople that were brought in to the project by Chalcraft Custom Builders made all the difference to Rowlands Associated whilst working on the design. For the designers, it is these details that will remain relevant regardless of the size of the space.

The condo is in the middle of a very busy and exciting part of town, and the designers strived to achieve an expression of this surrounding energy within it’s interiors. Nevertheless, the design also had to concurrently be a place for the owners to relax and restore. The neutral colours and layered textures of the bedroom are reminiscent with those found in hotel rooms with its calm ambience. The bar area and modern living space allows the clients to enjoy the space with friends, whilst still having the private area for the client’s bedroom and office. It achieves the functional requirements of a busy work life within a relaxed and intriguing space, and holds the ability to entertain friends in a very small footprint.
