Katharine Pooley Ltd, renowned for their exquisite interior designs, has recently completed a remarkable transformation of a luxury chalet nestled on the edge of a picturesque Alpine ski resort. Surrounded by magnificent snow-capped mountains, the chalet now boasts a new light and contemporary interior that embraces natural fabrics and organic textures.

Originally a rental chalet, the property was acquired by Katharine’s client as a year-round alpine retreat for their family to enjoy skiing, hiking, mountain biking, and the serene mountain life. With a vision of total transformation, Katharine and her team worked diligently for just under ten months to revamp the interior from top to bottom, with only the pine structure remaining.

To embody peace and tranquility with a touch of livable coziness, Katharine infused the interior with light-hued fabrics, clean architectural lines, and organic fluid furniture shapes, resulting in a rich and contemporary ambiance.

The locally sourced pine dominates the architectural elements both inside and out, harmoniously blended with stone quarried from the surrounding mountains, reclaimed timber, statuario marble, and bronze detailing, creating a raw and layered backdrop that evokes a sense of warmth and comfort.

Among the standout features, a central open-sided bronze liquid metal fireplace and a linear bronze and glass kitchen enclosure in the open-plan living space add unexpected theatre and refinement. The kitchen enclosure not only draws attention but also allows the chef to be visible while keeping noise at a minimum during social gatherings.

Throughout the chalet, textured fabrics play a central role, connecting the various spaces with a common narrative of inviting coziness. Katharine curated an array of exquisite fabrics, including beautiful worsted and boucle wools, cashmere, mohair, lambswool, silk wool, linen, and rafia, creating a comforting nest of natural materials.

From the open-plan living and dining room to the five bedroom suites, the home cinema, and the cozy family snug, every detail has been thoughtfully considered, ensuring a family-oriented and inviting environment. Personal touches abound, such as the kitchen stools upholstered in soft brushed sheepskin and the hand-carved timber furniture crafted by Katharine’s favorite workshops and joiners.
