Taylor Howes Designs were the winners of the Residential Market Value £10 Million Plus Award and the Designer of the Year Award in The International Design and Architecture Awards 2023.

Taylor Howes Designs, renowned for their exquisite luxury interiors, has recently completed a remarkable project in the heart of historic Mayfair—a Grade II listed duplex apartment that seamlessly blends the reinstatement of original features with a serene atmosphere. The design brief was to create a truly unique development that exudes understated beauty. Inspired by the surrounding areas, known for their notable cabinet makers and flourishing upholstery businesses, the team at Taylor Howes Designs sought to capture the essence of luxury prevalent in Mayfair while also bringing the property into the modern era.

A key consideration in the design process was ensuring the appeal of the property to a diverse range of prospective clients from various nationalities. This understanding of different cultural preferences informed the design choices and ensured a harmonious integration of different lifestyles within the space. The architectural heritage of the building played a vital role in shaping the design language. The transition from the traditional context of the main façade to the contemporary spaces towards the rear and the bedrooms created a seamless flow throughout the property.

In line with supporting local artisans and suppliers during the pandemic, Taylor Howes collaborated with British craftsmen and used renowned suppliers such as Samuel Heath, Bert Frank, Havwoods, and Stevensons of Norwich. These partnerships not only showcased their exceptional talent but also contributed to the timeless elegance that characterizes the success of this project.

Taylor Howes’ vision was to honor the past, revive the building’s inherent spirit, and create an exceptional London home for the 21st century. The apartment spans two floors—the ground and lower ground—with an abundance of natural light flowing through all spaces thanks to the reinstated central courtyard. Crittall-style doors and windows not only bathe the interiors in light but also maintain a sense of freshness and serenity. The design itself exudes understated luxury, characterized by refined finishes, allowing the inherent quality of the products to shine. The generous ceiling heights were utilized to their fullest potential, with the introduction of beautiful pendants, coffered ceilings, and tall cornicing. The overall scheme evokes a calming and warm atmosphere, subtly impactful in its sophistication.
