Tobias Oliver Interiors have been shortlisted for Luxury Residence – UK Award in The International Design and Architecture Awards 2023.

The clients, who have resided in the property for almost two decades, sought to create extended living areas to accommodate their grown-up children and frequent guests. Avid golfers, they had a vision of building an interior driving range in a newly constructed underground basement. Tobias Oliver Interiors was tasked with seamlessly integrating this golf room with a brand-new orangery that adjoined the existing ground-floor reception room. A key challenge was to reimagine the underutilized reception room, ensuring it flowed harmoniously with all living areas. The interior design brief was further extended to refresh the main entrance hallway and staircase to the upper floors.

The design team skilfully executed a full interior design service, ensuring a cohesive blend with the existing style of the country house. Warm and inviting spaces were meticulously crafted, encouraging family members to engage in various activities, from practicing golf swings to relaxing with a book or enjoying social gatherings. The newly designed reception room and light-filled orangery exude a captivating ambiance that remains delightful throughout the day and into the evening, irrespective of the season.

One highlight of the project is the carefully considered lighting layout, which was thoughtfully designed to provide optimum lighting and create the desired ambiance for each living space. The strategic placement of directional downlighters perfectly accentuates the Andrew Martin panelled wallpaper, guiding the gaze to the key elements of the stunning Pride & Prejudice wallcovering. Uplighters strategically placed in the steps leading to the orangery and within the fireplace hearth add a touch of architectural elegance, while Porta Romana ceiling and table lamps add layers, drama, and a hint of quirkiness to the interior.

The newly built orangery serves as a seamless connection to the beautifully landscaped garden, allowing the entire ground floor to become a harmonious indoor-outdoor living space during the summer months. The warmth of the oak flooring on the new staircase leading down to the basement golf room ensures continuity in the interior design, maintaining a consistently high standard of finish throughout the entire property.
