Urbanology Designs have been shortlisted for Living Space – Americas Award in The International Design and Architecture Awards 2021.

Urbanology Designs created the scheme with the client’s needs and style in mind. They required a liveable place for their family to enjoy and entertain but also wanted it to be interesting and elegant. The clients love organic and sculptural pieces so Urbanology Designs incorporated furniture that would appeal to their tastes, with simple, clean lines and comfortable furniture for the family to enjoy. The designers emphasized the contrast between the light-coloured chairs and the dark sofa and added wood tones, stone side tables, and a black steel console table with a background of a huge plaster arch design on the wall to layer texture and colour.

This beautiful room is flooded with natural lighting coming from the glass wall and easily flows into the outdoor patio. Urbanology Designs highlighted this connection and interaction between indoor and outdoor living space by featuring one large sofa and four low-back chairs to ensure the room feels airy and connected to the outdoor living area. This biophilic design was completed with a large living tree in the corner of the room.

Lighting was a big part of designing this room, Urbanology Designs saw the opportunity in mixing metals by selecting a beautiful, oversized black and brass chandelier and mixing it with brass tones in wall sconces hanging above and beside the custom artwork we chose for this space. The designers also custom-made a beautiful, 14’x14’ rug with natural tones of beige, greys, and earth tones to complete the look of this room. The rug contrasted the dark sofa and complimented the beautiful oak floors.

This scheme is exquisitely well-balanced, biophilic, and beautifully designed. The form in furniture pieces, colour palette, texture, and different materials elevates this room as a design-forward example of sophisticated simplicity and what we call organic modern. Organic modern is not minimalism. It is opulence with empathy, design with you and your daily life in mind. Liveable, highly functional yet beyond beautiful, and full of moments that whisk you away on full display in this project.
