West One Bathrooms

Victoria Villa by West One Bathrooms

West One Bathrooms have been shortlisted for Bathroom Award in The International Design and Architecture Awards 2023.

West One Bathrooms were approached during lockdown for renovation of this beautiful Victorian Villa located in the Spa town of Tunbridge Wells, Kent. The client fell in love with the agape Vieques bath after seeing it on the West One Bathrooms website and so this was the starting point of the project. Initially, the layout was going to remain the same, however the designer suggested an alternative layout that highlighted the Vieques bath as a showpiece centre stage whilst also enhancing the sense of space in the room.

The brief was for earthy and moody tones, the woodwork and ceiling in the previous space was painted in Mylands Artillery Ground which the client wanted to retain. The colour palette incorporates tones of green, grey and rust, all of which nod to the Victorian Era. A beautiful chinoiserie style waterproof wallpaper adorns the walls adding a soft elegant touch to the space and creates a statement contrast with the textural large format rust tiles on the floor – the result is an eclectic style that is individual and personal to the client.

It was important for the room to incorporate plenty of storage, the large traditional vanity unit was painted in RAL 7021 to match the exterior of the bath, mixing classic styling with ultra-industrial. As the room is a fusion of styles, West One Bathrooms suggested the Agape Memory brassware; its classic cross handle nods to traditional and the Burnished Bronze finish to industrial. Clear glass for the shower wouldn’t create the impact the designer was  seeking, so they had a bespoke grey tint glass made for the space, the moodiness for this glass really adds atmosphere to the room.

The new layout of the room creates visual interest with the bath in the middle of the room and the walk in shower directly behind it, the design utilises the room it is not just product stuck to the walls. The success of the scheme comes down to the juxtaposition of the styles and the moody, luxurious atmosphere.
