XBD Collective
XBD Collective has been shortlisted for Luxury Residence – Global Award in The International Design and Architecture Awards 2021.
The intention for this private villa was to create a contemporary and luxurious home for a young European family new to the area. Each part of the design was carefully considered to ensure that every detail married the design throughout the home to create a harmony of colours, materials, and angles. The overall brief was for XBD Collective to create a family friendly home in their signature luxury style on a limited budget. By keeping a neutral palette but also introducing bursts of colour, the designer’s fulfilled their client’s desire for ‘a sense of serenity and peace with elegant accents.’
As a huge golfing fan and with the property situated on the edge of a luxury golf course, the client desired an indoor/outdoor feel to flow throughout the space and highlight the picturesque landscapes through the floor to ceiling windows. The use of colour throughout this project stayed consistently neutral with warm grey and teal undertones. With a vast open plan structure, XBD created an elegant solution using sliding glass doors and a double height shelving partition to achieve the requires for separate formal and family areas.
A crucial factor in creating a cosy home which integrated into the wider environment and still enhanced the luxury features of the villa, was the positioning of and the use of different lighting techniques. Each provides a main focal point and wow-factor upon entering different area of the property. The natural marble staircase with glass railing is accentuated with indirect lighting under each step. Muted colours draw attention to the beauty of the chandelier which created an elegant symmetry. They also installed a polished chrome and frosted glass chandelier above the dining table for a grand and formal ambience when lit. In the girls’ bedroom, a playful cloud inspired headboard is backlit with dimmable controls and warm LED strips establishing a calming and soft mood; perfect for when putting their children to bed. With this in mind, XBD Collective could fulfil all of the client’s requirements. They ensured that they went above and beyond in blending opulence and balance throughout, with consideration for the family’s environment. An Exquisite Design was clearly achieved, and it is evident XBD was able to achieve ultimate balance between tailored design and client expectations.
The budget meant that appropriate allocation of cost had to be carefully considered. XBD Collective chose to use an array of high, mid, and more economical materials, opting for high-end marble and clever veneer techniques, mixed metals, and mirrors to create stunning reflection effects. They also used locally commissioned artists for the artwork and sourced textured wallpapers from trusted suppliers. The contemporary finishes were essential in bringing this design to life. The natural, soft design featuring incredible pieces of artwork makes the entrance to this villa truly serene, with custom created royal blue velvet seating drawing the eye to the floating bonsai tree and water feature beyond. Visible from all floors with a drop of 12660m, the stunning bespoke chandelier is a true work of art. The polished, frosted, and smoked glass elements are strategically placed to enhance the natural and artificial light reflections both through the daytime and at night. As a family with two young children under the age of 7, safety was a high priority and was considered throughout all custom designed items using curved corners, high shelving, and soft fabrics.
