Tell us a little about your background in design:

I am a son of an artist and studied at the London School of Design BA. I have been in the industry of design for 25 years.

How would you describe your personal design style?

Minimal but natural

Where does your design inspiration come from?

Nature. From this, I mean every aspect, even from a stone.

In what direction do you feel that design is moving towards in a general sense?

I can’t speak for design in general as I don’t usually draw inspiration from design within my own discipline. I try to respond to the brief, the client and the space. But I feel we are mixing future and old together.

Name five key themes to consider when approaching design in 2022 and beyond.

People’s time is becoming more and more important to them.

– We’re spending more time at home, so need to consider family, work, health and fun!

– Always be different, we want to give people things that nobody else has.

– Be ahead of the curve, there are so many exciting products out there, and clients expect us to know what’s going on.

– Simply be great to work with – make the work seamless!

If you could offer one piece of advice when it comes to design schemes, what would it be?

Don’t be too bogged down by tiny details from the start – get the overall idea in place and make sure the client is happy. The details can be refined after that. But the initial concept has to delight the client and get them excited, you can always pull back if needed.

How important are The International Design & Architecture Awards?

Extremely important, a very prestigious award in the international design landscape.

What projects are you currently working on?

A full interior fit out for a stunning beach house in North Cornwall, an ultra-modern interior for a townhouse in Notting Hill and a kitchen and master suite in Hampstead.

What was your favourite project to work on and why?

There are too many to choose but The Twisted Staircase will always be an extremely special one.

What was your most challenging project to work on and why?

The Twisted Staircase. It was a logistical nightmare due to the sheer weight of the hot-rolled steel but absolutely worth it when you see the finished result!

Which products/services could you not live without when designing?

Pencil & paper.

What are your aims and goals for the next twelve months?

Education and being more open to new things!
