ECOS Hotel by Bishop Design by Paul Bishop

Bishop Design by Paul Bishop are the winners of the Restaurant – Middle East & Africas Award in The International Hotel and Property Awards 2022.

ECOS began as a space that needed cohesion. Located in Al Furjan, Dubai, this lifestyle hotel development was intended to be the first of its kind, forward-thinking social hub within the area. Bishop Design successfully aligned the client’s budget with practicality and set a new standard of lifestyle establishment.

Boasting an array of ‘instagrammable’ features, the space instigates a sense to wonder and explore. Deriving from the clients’ brief, the desired design direction was to provide novel, unique and authentic experiences through the elements used. It was to be ultimately cost-effective, considering; ambience, smart technology and materials which were visually dynamic, with strong use of graphic and visual connectivity throughout, offering instant gratification.

As one travels through the space, Bishop Design’s broad use of diversifying materials and cultural installations enhance the experience. A multitude of patterns, shapes, forms, and textures are accentuated through the use of current materials. The juxtaposition between both vibrant and restrained colour palettes neutralises the patterned counterparts. The beauty of the venue is in the selection of the fixtures and accent pieces which flaunt a contemporary hint.

Geometric flooring binds the colour components that lead guests into the Restaurant area. Alternating opulent green fabrics diverge against pastel hues, formulating seating arrangements and seamlessly complementing their neutral equivalents. Raw materials are introduced through a medley of timber woods harnessing together Banquettes, with corrugated grey-stone cladding encapsulating zone defining pillars. The three-tone porcelain chevron flooring is replicated in a muted three-dimensional form on the ceiling above, equally complimented by brushed gold accents used in a magnitude of ways to elevate the luxury intent. Contrasting inlay is used to transition between spatial zones with the pattern widening as guests move into the restaurant, a classic Paul Bishop trademark, and it eventually breaks away to open up the area.

The project shows an intelligent design approach and thought-provoking solutions. Primarily what has been achieved here is an internationally adaptable homegrown brand. Understated, fun, smart and above all an offering that provides guests with affordable luxury.
