Hotel Indigo Dubai Downtown
Hotel Indigo Dubai Downtown have been shortlisted for Hotel Over 200 Rooms – Global Award in The International Hotel and Property Awards.
Hotel Indigo Dubai Downtown is a refreshingly vibrant lifestyle boutique hotel. Each of the 269 rooms tell the story of Dubai Creek – whether that’s through the surrealist wallpaper exclusively created by local artists, bespoke shisha lamps or the wooden wardrobes, hand-crafted in Mashrabiya style with a modern twist.
Hotel Indigo® properties offer a gateway to discover some of the world’s most inspiring locations. Hotel Indigo Dubai Downtown is no exception, taking inspiration from its neighbourhood to help guests feel part of the destination. Dubai grew outward as a city, from the banks of the Creek in Old Town Dubai and the commercial heart of Dubai, Deira. Historically, development of Dubai has grown in tandem with the development and extension of the Dubai Creek into new areas of Dubai. The design team drew inspiration from the Creek extending into Business Bay, as a story of transformation from the old to the new. This is a key theme of the design, juxtaposing the traditional and the modern. The developer wanted to create a strong and authentic story for Hotel Indigo Dubai Downtown, acknowledging the hotel’s relationship with its location. The strong conceptual narrative had to underpin every aspect of the design, and provide a cohesive link between the design elements throughout the hotel.
With a vibrant blend of sophisticated Arabic aesthetics and a contemporary flair, nothing is designed randomly at Hotel Indigo. For centuries, the Creek has been the city’s epicentre of trade; visitors can still see the hustle and bustle of this fascinating tradition on the banks of the old creek in Deira where Dhows (wooden boats) filled with all kinds of cargo in crates ply their trade. This idea was carried into eclectic and quirky pieces for guest rooms. The mother-of-pearl bathrooms pay homage to the country’s proud heritage of pearl diving, while eye-catching vibrant Moroso designer furniture adds a contemporary touch to the interior. A statement archway by Christian Lacroix Maison creates a vibrant entrance to the Open Sesame social eatery and sets the fresh aesthetic immediately. This combination of fabrics was based on the design on Abayas worn by local Emirati women, typically black on the outside with detailed patterns on the inside.
Hand-made reception desks pay homage to the culture, incorporating Islamic geometry and Arabic design. The first desk is carved in deep walnut wood and inspired by the traditional Emirati design that still can be found in the villas in old parts of the country. The second is covered in marquetry; a prominent style in Syrian and Lebanese furniture design. The third features traditional metal lattice pattern, and the last has beautiful opulent mother-of-pearl inlay. Hanging in the Lobby Lounge is Chandelier Bedouin 2020. Blending silicon and fabric, this mixed media installation is a homage to the work of the late Hassan Sharif, a pioneer of the contemporary art movement in UAE. Through this installation, Hotel Indigo Dubai Downtown creates a contrast between the cultural heritage of Emiratis, and their relentless march to modernity. One of the most unique design pieces in the hotel is without any doubt the phenomenal digital media art installation “Wind of Dubai”, uniquely created by award-winning LA media artist Refik Anadol. The artist turns the invisible patterns of nature in and around Dubai into a series of poetic, three-dimensional data sculptures.
