Hotel Indigo Dubai Downtown have been shortlisted for Hotel Design – Africas & Middle East Award in The International Hotel and Property Awards 2022.

Hotel Indigo Dubai Downtown is no exception, taking inspiration from its neighbourhood to help guests feel part of the destination. With a vibrant blend of sophisticated Arabic aesthetics with a contemporary flair, nothing is designed at random at Hotel Indigo. Each supplier, designer and artist drew inspiration from the rich heritage and vibrancy of Dubai Creek.

The brief was to lead the interior design work, adding detail and personality to the hotel. The developer put in an extraordinary amount of time and resources to develop a well thought out “neighborhood story” so to ensure that this project stands apart by virtue of having a strong conceptual narrative underpin every aspect of the design. This in turn enabled the designers to provide a cohesive link between all the design elements including wayfinding, landscaping, exterior architecture, the construction materials, the amenities, soft furnishings, art works, rugs, custom lighting, wallpaper and various installations throughout the Hotel.

For centuries, the Creek has been the city’s epicentre of trade. Visitors to the area can still see the hustle and bustle of this fascinating tradition, where the Dhows and Abras (wooden boats) are docked on the banks of the Creek. As the Creek winds its way through Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary, vintage gives way to vogue, connecting the trading posts of old with modern architectural exuberance. In the distance sits D3, a nexus of art, design and innovation. The Creek’s journey is a story of the transformation of Dubai from a trading post to the city of the future that it is today, and this has influenced the hotel’s overall architectural and interior design approach.

Hotel Indigo Dubai Downtown is a refreshingly vibrant lifestyle boutique hotel. A statement archway by Christian Lacroix Maison adorns the entrance into the Open Sesame social eatery located on the ground floor. This intentionally lively entrance sets the fresh design mood right at the beginning, and the combination of fabrics was based on the design on Abayas worn by local Emirati women, typically black on the outside with detailed patterns on the inside.

The design of each of the 269 rooms uses wallpaper exclusively created by local artists, bespoke shisha lamps, and wardrobes with handcrafted carved wooden doors to illustrate the story of Dubai Creek. The spa inspired mother-of-pearl bathrooms pay homage to the country’s proud heritage of pearl diving, while eye-catching vibrant Moroso designer furniture adds a contemporary touch to the interior of each room. A selection of other Moroso pieces are placed throughout the public areas of the hotel. Over 200 curated artworks are featured throughout the hotel that were acquired over a long period of time. The aim is to form a collection of artworks that have their own role in telling the neighbourhood story. The hotel has partnered with local creatives through their close associations with Alserkal Cultural Foundation, Majlis Gallery and XVA Gallery among others to provide artworks from not only local artists but also from expatriates who have drawn inspiration from Dubai, the Emirati culture and heritage.
