Tell us a little about your background in design (education, experience, etc): Architect, Interior Designer

How would you describe your personal interior design style? Exploring small details may be the key to a remarkable design solution. And I would define my design style as a synthesis of classical and modern aesthetic.

Where does your design inspiration come from? Iconic architect Mies Van Der Rohe’s words “God is in the details” words guided me significantly in every architectural and interior design project I have developed. Geographical and cultural characteristics of a project influences my design approach the most.

In what direction do you feel that design is moving towards in a general sense? I believe with the influence of sustainable and environment friendly design movement, more designers nowadays prefer natural materials including stone, rammed earth, hollow concrete, and wood to high-energy materials as cement, glass, brick, and steel. And as we’re witnessing the rapidly developing technologies each day, digital design softwares provide spaces of augmented reality that do not only serves to function, but also to aesthetics.

Name five key themes to consider when approaching design in 2022 and beyond. We’ll be seeing sculptural and curved furniture in 2022. Retro design, especially 70’s inspired color palette, shapes and textures prove to be lasting for the past few years. Light colours, natural materials with soft features are going to be very popular. Not to mention the trendy Biophilic Design. One of the best ways to incorporate nature into indoors is adding plants or perhaps going a bit radical and create an indoor plant oasis.

If you could offer one piece of advice when it comes to interior design schemes, what would it be? Be attentive to details and keep it simple yet elegant.

How important are The International Hotel & Property Awards as recognition of talent and achievement?

It makes us extremely proud to be shortlisted and receive new awards within our field. They take us onto platforms where our designs and projects are recognized. That, along with our clients’ happiness and the appreciation of such organizations, helps us raise the bar for the services we offer every day.

I have won many awards and also under the Sia Moore umbrella. Such recognition has helped us work with an even more devoted and detail-oriented mindset at every new project.

What projects are you currently working on? Residential and commercial projects across different regions of the world.

What was your favourite project to work on and why? I don’t really have a favourite one, all are already uniquely precious to me.

What was your most challenging project to work on and why? With my Qatar Company, back in 2014 as one of the leading Fit Out sub-contractors of a huge five-star luxury hotel project in the Middle East, we manufactured and installed several gigantic-scale furniture, staircase and lighting solutions. It was one in a life time experience, for sure. It proved to be highly memorable even after all these years.  

Which products/services could you not live without when designing? My special pen.

What are your aims and goals for the next twelve months? 2021 has been a year in which we opened up to the commercial design; specifically, towards the entertainment and fine dining industry. With 2022, me and my team members continue shuttling back and forth between Iraq, Qatar, İstanbul and London to complete design projects as well as residential apartments, villas and mansion turn-key projects. Nevertheless launching our latest interior design and furniture brand & showroom Deco Moore | Studio in London was definitely a highlight which marked 2022 for us.

Final thoughts; tell us a little more about yourself and your daily inspirations:

Your most treasured possession? A very special illustration of my dog Tommy, a tiny souvenir from my nieces and my pearl earrings.

Your favourite holiday destination? I care a lot about one’s feeling fresh, mindful and peaceful to sustain a grounded life, especially if you’re suffering from a busy work schedule. On holidays I travel to Nepal and Japan to participate to silent retreats. I intentionally visit Japan in Spring to be able to watch Cherry Blossoms. It’s a magical thing seeing everywhere you look is covered in soft pink splendour. What a source of inspiration! I do believe in the power of strengthen the relationship between mind and body. So I take mindful holidays when I have the chance.

Your favourite hotel, restaurant & bar? Too many favourite hotels and flavours. It’s really impossible for me to give a specific one.

Your favourite book, film & song? I just love old Turkish movies and the innocence embedded in their narrative and picture.

Your favourite food and drink? Again, too many favourites for flavours. It’s hard to pick one.

Your favourite way to spend an afternoon? Spend time with my colleagues at the office.

If you weren’t a designer, what would you be? Never really thought of becoming something else since the childhood years. Becoming a designer is a dream came true.
