Jeremy Blake Architects & StudioJill have been shortlisted for Lobby/Public Areas – Europe Award in The International Hotel and Property Awards 2023.

Jeremy Blake Architects & StudioJill have recently completed a magnificent transformation of a Luxury Family Hotel, taking advantage of its elevated location overlooking Fowey Estuary. The project aimed to enhance and expand the hotel’s offerings with additional facilities and accommodation while preserving its historic charm.

The main historically listed mansion at the heart of the hotel underwent a sensitive and creative transformation, resulting in a new bar to complement the lounges and a private dining/function room within the restaurant. The outdoor terraces were dramatically redesigned, featuring a newly added outdoor pool and a re-landscaped area that embraces the stunning elevated position.

To maximize the breathtaking panoramic estuary views, guestrooms and suites were strategically placed within the existing hotel and new extensions. Five new spa suites were introduced, each equipped with terraces offering a prominent location for guests to enjoy the natural beauty of the surroundings. The spa experience was further enhanced with the addition of a spa lounge featuring an extensive outdoor terrace, providing guests with a relaxing and immersive connection to the picturesque landscape.

Throughout the project, Jeremy Blake Architects together with StudioJill masterfully maintained an informal and relaxed seaside holiday ambiance, reflecting the hotel’s setting. Natural materials and fabrics were incorporated, creating a sense of freshness and warmth that is bathed in abundant natural light.

Restoring and transforming the Grade 2 Listed Fowey Hall, which served as inspiration for Kenneth Grahame’s Toad Hall, was a significant part of the project. The architectural qualities and historical significance of the building were carefully preserved and emphasized, resulting in a relaxed and family-friendly destination with stunning facilities and exquisite decor, harmonizing with the natural beauty of the surroundings.

Embracing the hotel’s elevated position overlooking Fowey Harbour, the interiors seamlessly connect with the outdoors, creating a harmonious flow between the inside and outside spaces. This design approach is evident in the suites and guestrooms that offer breathtaking views of the Fowey Estuary, as well as in the new spa lounge, bar, and restaurant.

The addition of the outdoor pool further elevates the family destination hotel, accentuating its prominent location and capturing the essence of the stunning surroundings. Jeremy Blake Architects & StudioJill’s exceptional work on this project has transformed the Luxury Family Hotel into a captivating retreat that celebrates the beauty and allure of its breathtaking coastal setting.
