Imraan Ismail Interiors have been shortlisted for Hotel Under 50 Rooms – Global Award in The International Hotel and Property Awards 2021.

The brief was to help create a unique British coastal town hotel experience through innovative design and within a limited budget. The designers were asked to work with affordable, practical and long lasting materials that would complement and contrast with each other to create a warm, welcoming and new luxury costal hotel experience.

Importantly, they were asked to create a clean and contemporary space that would not date, would remain practical to maintain in the long term, yet always be considered as a front runner in affordable British coastal town design. Imraan Ismail Interiors took cognisance of the surrounding environment and as briefed, looked to work in natural costal tones and materials to create warmth – materials that would wear well and would stay ahead of interior trends without great cost. It was asked that the designer was to use the Port Hotel icon in playful and surprising ways to engage the audience and hotel guests through our interior design.

Designing the bar / lounge/ communal/ restaurant area the aim of the design was to create something inviting and memorable in the space whilst also keeping within the brief of a contemporary space that would not date. The design is unique for British coastal towns. It’s fresh, edgy and unexpected.

The exterior of the hotel is painted in charcoal black referencing the clapboard boathouses of Norfolk and the stark dark colours of industrial ports. The Port interior is in direct contrast to the deliberately dark exterior. When you step inside you are soothed by a calm, natural, coastal colour palette. Organic curves, arched doorways and port hole windows are used throughout as are natural materials such as cork, stone and wood.

We were working to a tight budget so engaged many local artisans to assist with fitting out the hotel. All the joinery and woodwork for example, from the bar counter to bedroom headboards were bespoke and made by local joiners.
