Iliard Architecture and Interior Design have been shortlisted for Lobby/Public Areas – Global Award in the International Hotel and Property Awards 2022.

The interior design has a perfect mix of traditional and current trends. Channelling the spirit of Gatsby, the new look of the hotel and its interior design scheme were based on the existing elements, such as wall and ceiling decorations or exquisite wooden floors. The colour palette of the design revolves around browns, greens, beige and golden. Wooden panelling on the walls, upholstered furniture and vintage carpets are direct references to hotel’s past. They were counterbalanced by structural wall finishing, decorative plaster or by exposing the existing ceiling ribs. Replacing small windows on the ground floor with extensive glass panels helped to open the hotel to the public and the city itself.

The original ribbed ceiling in the new lobby was accentuated with lighting and finished with decorative plaster. Classic wallpaper patterns, furniture made to individual order, boldly coloured custom-made carpets and eye-catching posters, were also added to provide rich and eclectic flourish. Following the brand new common spaces philosophy that stood in contrast with the standard layout of hotel spaces, the reception area was moved further inside the hotel. This allowed for the creation of a more discreet and intimate experience. A heavy wooden counter stands in the central part of the reception area, with a large lamp in Art-Deco style hanging just above it.

The space was also re-imagined with bookcases and a fireplace, for a sense of refined warmth. The gastronomic concept of the hotel was transformed completely, too. An elegant restaurant with an outdoor terrace was created: an extravagantly delicious space complete with furniture made of exotic wood, a 15-foot bespoke chandelier, crystal lights or gilded mirrors. Complementary to the main restaurant is the dining and bar area, immersed in soft tones of brown and beige flooring and furniture.
