The brief for the design of the first 67 Pall Mall members club for wine lovers in Asia, set with the 15,000 sq. ft. penthouse at the top of Shaw Center in Singapore. The Singapore club had to strike the right balance of having the familiarity and intimacy of the property in London’s Mayfair, whilst being sympathetic to its South-East Asian home. Every feature has been meticulously chosen and custom-made to provide an unparalleled luxurious experience, from custom de Gournay large panels of wallpaper to antique brass door handles.

The building is owned by the Shaw Organisation and Rockett Studio Pte Ltd drew inspiration from the rich history of their movie making past and their Shanghainese heritage. The Clubroom feels like a historical grand hotel lobby, whilst the intimate whisky bar tucked away upstairs draws inspiration from the cinematic colour palette of the flourishing Chinese and Malay films shot in the 1950/60s.

As the original space was used as a residential penthouse, owned by Runme Shaw of the Shaw brothers, there are some features that tie the current space to its cinematic heyday. From the crystal chandeliers and wall sconces from when the space was used as a residence to the original red theatre seats and from the Shaw movie theatre; Rockett Studio were able to give these antiques a new life while placing them in a modern setting, keeping it functional while holding the Southeast’s largest wine collection.

As tribute to the London Club’s namesake spirits den, the Naughty Corner sits in what was once the Penthouse’s bedroom. Together with the Whisky Bar, this intimate space seats up to 35 guests and sets the scene for a more intimate lounge experience to appreciate fine spirits. The walls, bar, and cabinets are cladded in camphor burl wood, which provides a naturally calming scent that is said to lower heart rates, complementing the handmade floral velvet upholstery.
