FRANK Architecture & Interiors
FRANK Architecture & Interiors have been shortlisted for Restaurant Within A Hotel – Global Award in The International Hotel and Property Awards 2021.
Rundle Bar is located within the iconic Banff Springs Hotel, a landmark destination that attracts visitors from all over the world. The exclusive location required a design that contributed to the prestige and grandeur of the hotel. FRANK Architecture & Interiors worked with ACCOR Design & Technical Services to balance the historic features of the space with fresh and innovative touches. The timeless design results in a luxurious and enchanting space, with a show-stopping central bar where guests can relax and socialise, surrounded by breathtaking mountain views.
From the onset of the project, the team aspired to create a contemporary space that honoured the hotel’s nostalgic old-world charm. Each element of the design is considered, deliberate and thoughtfully selected. The result is a transformative space that is honest and true to the design narrative, where guests are immersed in a richly layered environment that merges the past with the present. Custom designed furniture clad in rich jewel tone mohair and leather upholstery combined with bespoke lighting composed of bronze and glass detailing create luxurious layers that complement the building’s heritage and quality.
The central showstopping bar anchors the space and ties into double volume arches. Once part of the original building façade, these were transformed into full height shelving with a custom bronze and wood engraving above. The engraved ‘thistle’ is a common narrative seen in linenfold, plaster and stained glasswork throughout the hotel. One of the original arches adjacent to the bar was converted into a floor to ceiling bookshelf with a secret door leading to an intimate dining area. FRANK Architecture & Interiors layered bespoke lighting and rich materials throughout to instil a sense of opulence and grandeur, and create an elevated yet approachable dining experience.
Often deemed the living room or heart of the hotel, this enchanting space is both current and timeless whilst paying homage to the hotel’s rich history. The design draws inspiration from the notion of the living room with bespoke furniture groupings and intimate lighting pockets. Careful consideration was given to each element of the design. It was paramount for FRANK Architecture & Interiors and ACCOR Design & Technical Services to respect and preserve many of the existing architectural elements. This included maintaining the historic Rundle stone which was quarried from the base of Mount Rundle mountain above. There is an exuding sense of luxury and elegance, whilst offering an approachable and comfortable atmosphere for guests to socialize and relax.
