Garuda Design have been shortlisted for Bar/Club/Lounge – Europe Award in The International Hotel and Property Awards 2022.

The brief for Sabine was to create a rooftop garden retreat where it’s guests could have wonderful cocktails and food and appreciate the incredible views of such a location, so close to St. Paul’s cathedral and the stunning London skyline beyond. The Leonardo St. Paul’s, already a busy business and tourist hotel was in need of a more exotic and intimate meeting place that would appeal to both the day and evening customer, to get away from the corporate feel of the larger communal areas and attract a different clientele.

The brief was to maximise the floor area inside to create both a feature bar but also plenty of space for dining, mingling and also use the outdoor terrace areas for flexible space, dining, functions, parties, in a cool and fun space. The areas were to be fun, colourful, vibrant and youthful. The key aspect of the design was the central bar which can be used from all sides and has a glass canopy above. It’s a striking central focal point and a natural hub to gather under the sky, with cascading greenery it sets the tone for the garden retreat.

The theme of an exotic Garden transports the client from the concrete city grey below to a green escape. It is like an oasis, or a treetop space high in the sky looking out over the rooftops. The design connects you with the Sky and beyond rather than the buildings below and is thus an escape. specialist planting was required to create the garden retreat feel.
