The Stoos Lodge, a newly built ski hotel in the Swiss Alps, is a stunning example of contemporary design meeting traditional alpine aesthetics. The hotel is situated in the picturesque and car-free mountain village of Stoos in Central Switzerland.
The Stoos Lodge is an ideal destination for ski enthusiasts, with the mountain station of the new funicular railway located just a stone’s throw away from the hotel. After a day on the slopes, guests can relax in the hotel’s luxurious spa and wellness facilities, with breath-taking views of the mountains.
Completed in December 2022, the Stoos Lodge replaced the former Hotel Klingenstock and serves as a new hub for tourists and locals alike. Both the Stoos Lodge and the new funicular railway, which happens to be the steepest in the world, are located adjacent to each other. Together, they define a new central point for the village. The hotel’s construction expands the range of accommodation and services available on Mount Stoos, making it an excellent choice for visitors and locals who are seeking comfort and convenience.
The Stoos Lodge has been designed as a new generation ski hotel, which seamlessly blends urban lifestyle with alpine context, this is largely thanks to its alpine building vocabulary. The solid-looking base, continuous wooden façades, and pitched roof covered with natural slate are just a few examples of the hotel’s commitment to blending in with its surroundings.
The compact and vertical structure of the hotel is juxtaposed with the flat, horizontally extended mountain station, creating a dynamic interplay between the two buildings. The main building is strictly symmetrical, accommodating most of the hotel’s functions. Precisely placed extensions join the main building to expand the rooms on the ground floor and create a relationship to the surrounding spaces.
The interior design of Stoos Lodge also seamlessly integrates urban style with the natural beauty of the Swiss Alps. Muted tones and contemporary design elements are thoughtfully incorporated to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The result of Stoos Lodge’s design is a skillful combination of urban elegance with traditional alpine aesthetics, resulting in a fusion of two seemingly differing styles.
