The G.A Group have been shortlisted for Hotel Design – Asia Pacific Award in The International Hotel and Property Awards 2023.

The Westin Yokohama is a luxurious newly built hotel featuring 373 rooms in the heart of the Minato Mirai district of Yokohama. The Interior concept for the Westin Yokohama was created around connections. The G.A Group wanted the hotel to connect with the city, the port, the people and to the natural environment.

Entry to the hotel is on the ground level. This arrival zone immediately offers calming elements of nature, the sound of gentle running water, natural stone and timber finishes with steel and metal elements that reflect the Yokohama Portside location. The hotel has three restaurants, a patisserie and a destination bar from which you can take in the city views. All of these reflect and acknowledge the large range of international influences brought to Yokohama through its active sea connections, and represents the stylish Motomachi district.

As well as fitting within the Westin hotel concept of referencing natural elements into the project, The G.A Group believe it brings a personality to the project. The designers wanted guests to ‘hang out’ in the lobby, bar and restaurants as much as possible. The central lighting feature in the lobby is derived from Shinrin yoku (forest bathing) and the light levels change throughout the day.

One of the key aspects of this project is the lobby garden terraces on the 23rd floor which allow guests to be surrounded by natural elements with a view of Mount Fuji on a clear day. There are clear views from all sides of the building with the Yokohama Bay on one side and the city lights on the other. Elements in the art are reminiscent of the Port features such as the reflecting pool in the entry lobby and iron sculptures.
