Relativity Architects have been shortlisted for Hotel Under 50 Rooms – Global Award in The International Hotel and Property Awards 2023.

The Venice ‘V’ Hotel is a beachfront lifestyle hotel project by Relativity Architects, in collaboration with concept developer Mystery, Ltd., and interior decorator Labbe Designs. 

This historic 1918 building was reimagined in a modern way to capture the essence of the surroundings and combined with both the past and present history of Venice Beach. The conceptual framework of the bedrooms and suites references three local “Venetian” archetypes: skateboarder, artist, and bohemian. All of them feature open floor plans, hardwood or concrete floors, wet bars, and walk-in showers. The two commonalities are a visual connection to the iconic Pacific Ocean, the palm tree-lined beach as well as art from local artists and photographers. 

In terms of design details, the Artist rooms have a moody feeling with dark walls and hardwood floors. Brass details speak to the sophisticated vibe, while musical instruments, handcrafted pottery, and vintage typewriters support the creative-type theme. Above the bed, are black-and-white woodcut prints of eccentrically paired wildlife, which are sourced from a local eclectic artist from the 1930s. On the other hand, the Boho rooms evoke more of a sense of freedom and empowerment, with some design details meant to appeal to the eclectic tastes of the visitors. Gradient sunsets are painted behind intricately carved wooden headboards for a sense of calm and connection to the vast horizon. Wide-plank wood flooring, rustic wood furniture, antiqued mirrors, and exposed wood beams contribute to the relaxed atmosphere. Textured fabrics, and modern macramé wall hangings and light fixtures capture the laid-back, free spirit of Venice.

Each space was carefully designed to celebrate the local history and community. From an aesthetic perspective, this design works so well because it captures the essence of what it’s like to live in Venice Beach. Creating an open invitation to visitors to feel at home, and seamlessly weaving the Hotel into Venice culture.
